星际猎人
**The 65th Chapter: The Web of Lies**
Lemuel's words still lingered in the air, like a venomous dart that had struck its mark. Nova's eyes blazed with anger, her face twisted in a mixture of pain and betrayal. She took another step back, her hand still grasping the hilt of her sword, as if unsure of what to do next.
"You're saying that everything I thought I knew was a lie?" Nova's voice was low and deadly, her words dripping with venom. "That you manipulated me from the very start?"
Lemuel didn't flinch, his eyes never leaving Nova's face. "I didn't manipulate you, Nova. I protected you. I kept you safe."
"Safe?" Nova's laughter was like a winter storm, cold and unforgiving. "You call this safety? You call lying to me, using me, and betraying me safety?"
Lemuel's face twisted in a look of pain, but his eyes remained hard. "I did what I had to do, Nova. I had to keep the truth from you. You weren't ready to handle it."
Nova's sword flashed in the dim light, its blade glinting like a shining star. "I'll never forgive you for this," she spat, her words like a poisonous arrow. "You've ruined everything. I'll make sure you pay for this."
Lemuel didn't move, his eyes never leaving Nova's. "I knew you'd react like this," he said, his voice low and measured. "But I also knew that you'd listen to me, eventually. And when you do, you'll understand why I did what I did."
Nova's laughter was like a maelstrom, a whirlpool that sucked everything in. "I'll never understand it," she spat. "I'll never forgive it. And when I'm done with you, Lemuel, you'll wish you'd never been born."
The air was thick with tension, the silence between them heavy with unspoken words. Nova's hand still grasped the hilt of her sword, her eyes burning with a fierce determination. Lemuel's eyes never left hers, his face set in a hard, unyielding mask.
And then, without warning, Nova turned and disappeared into the shadows, leaving Lemuel standing alone in the darkness.
The silence was oppressive, the only sound the soft rustle of Nova's cloak as she vanished into the night. Lemuel's eyes never left the spot where she had stood, his mind racing with the implications of what had just happened.
He knew that Nova would never forgive him. He knew that she would hunt him down with a vengeance. But he also knew that he had done what he had to do. And he was prepared to face the consequences.
As he stood there, lost in thought, a shadowy figure emerged from the darkness. It was a figure Lemuel knew well, a figure he had thought long gone.
"Liam," Lemuel said, his voice low and even. "I thought you were dead."
Liam's face twisted in a cruel grin. "I was," he said, his voice like a rusty gate. "But I'm back now. And I'm here to collect my debts."
Lemuel's eyes narrowed, his hand instinctively reaching for his own sword. But he knew that he was no match for Liam. Not yet. Not until he had figured out what was going on.
And so, with a heavy heart, Lemuel made his decision. He would have to play along, for now. He would have to pretend to work with Liam, to gather information and wait for the right moment to strike.
But deep down, Lemuel knew that this was just the beginning. This was just the start of a long and treacherous road, one that would lead him to the very heart of the galaxy. And he was ready.
