第64章 "Shadows of Deceit"

星际猎人

**The 64th Chapter: The Shadows Deepen**

Lemuel's words hung in the air like a challenge, and Nova's eyes flashed with a mixture of anger and hurt. She took a step back, her hand instinctively reaching for the gun at her hip. "You're saying you lied to me, manipulated me, and betrayed me?" she spat, her voice low and venomous.

Lemuel's expression remained calm, but his eyes seemed to burn with an inner fire. "I did what needed to be done, Nova. You needed to be convinced, and I convinced you. You're a brilliant hunter, but you're also blind to the bigger picture."

Nova's anger boiled over, and she swung her gun at Lemuel. "How dare you! You're not even worthy of being a human being, let alone a hunter."

Lemuel's eyes never left hers, and he raised a hand, palm outwards. "Stop, Nova. You're not thinking clearly. You're letting your emotions cloud your judgment."

Nova's finger tightened around the trigger, but just as she was about to pull the trigger, a voice echoed from the shadows. "Hold it right there, Lemuel."

The two of them turned to face the newcomer, and Nova's eyes widened as she saw Zephyr stepping out of the darkness, her gun trained on Lemuel.

"Ah, lovely Zephyr," Lemuel said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Just in time to mediate this little situation."

Zephyr's eyes narrowed. "I mean it, Lemuel. You're going down."

Nova's anger gave way to confusion. What was going on? Why was Zephyr here? And what did she have to do with Lemuel's betrayal?

As the tension escalated, the shadows seemed to deepen, and the air grew thick with anticipation. Lemuel's eyes never left Zephyr's, and Nova's heart pounded in her chest. Something was about to go down, and she had no idea what.

"Calm down, everyone," Zephyr said, her voice firm but controlled. "We need to talk."

But before anyone could respond, Lemuel's comms device beeped, and he pulled out his earpiece. "Lemuel to Lemuel," he said, his voice low and urgent.

Nova's eyes locked onto the earpiece, and her heart skipped a beat. What was happening? And what did it have to do with their situation?

As the silence stretched out, the shadows seemed to grow even darker, and the air was heavy with anticipation. Something was about to go down, and Nova was ready to face it head-on.

But what was coming, and who was behind it? Only time would tell.
