**The 57th Chapter: The Confrontation**
Lemuel's words hung in the air like a challenge, and Nova's expression turned from anger to surprise. For a moment, the two of them just stared at each other, the silence between them thick with tension.
"You're saying I'm wrong?" Nova's voice was low and deadly, her grip on Lemuel's arm like a vise.
Lemuel shook his head. "I'm saying we don't know what we're dealing with. We can't just assume the worst without proof."
Nova's eyes flashed with anger. "Proof? You think we need proof? I've been watching you, Lemuel. I know you're hiding something. You're not telling me the truth."
Lemuel felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. He knew he had to keep his cool, but it was getting harder by the minute. "Nova, listen to me. I'm telling you the truth. We have to work together if we want to get out of this alive."
Nova's face twisted in contempt. "You really think I'm that stupid? You think I don't know what's going on? I know exactly what's going on, Lemuel. And you're at the center of it."
Lemuel's heart raced as Nova's words hung in the air, accusing and menacing. He knew he had to do something, but what? He couldn't fight Nova, not yet. Not until he knew what was going on.
Suddenly, the lights in the room flickered and died, plunging the space into darkness. The air was charged with electricity, and Lemuel could feel the weight of Nova's gaze on him like a physical blow.
"Nova, what's going on?" he whispered, his voice barely audible over the pounding of his heart.
There was no answer, just the sound of Nova's breathing, heavy and deliberate. Lemuel knew he was in trouble, and he didn't know how to get out of it.
As he stood there, frozen in fear, he heard the sound of footsteps echoing through the darkness. Heavy, deliberate footsteps. The kind of footsteps that said someone – or something – was coming for him.
And then, out of the darkness, a figure emerged. Tall, imposing, and with eyes that seemed to bore into Lemuel's very soul.
"Ah, Lemuel," the figure said, its voice low and menacing. "I've been looking for you."
Lemuel's eyes locked onto the figure, his heart racing with fear. Who was this person, and what did they want? He knew one thing for sure – he was in grave danger, and he had to get out of there before it was too late.
But as he turned to make a run for it, he felt a hand on his shoulder, holding him back. Nova's hand.
"You're not going anywhere, Lemuel," she whispered, her breath cold and menacing. "Not until I get the truth."
And with that, the darkness seemed to close in around him, and Lemuel knew he was trapped.
