第56章 "Burning Honor"

星际猎人

**The 56th Chapter: The Test**

Lemuel's eyes locked onto Nova's, the weight of the situation settling in. He knew he couldn't outrun the truth, so he decided to face the music head-on. "I didn't do it, Nova. I swear on my honor as a hunter that I'm telling the truth."

Nova's grip on his arm relaxed, but his eyes never left Lemuel's face. "Save it, Lemuel. I've seen your skills in action. You're a talented hunter, but you're also a talented liar. I'm not buying it."

Lemuel felt a surge of frustration, but he kept his cool. He knew Nova was right; he had lied to him before, and he couldn't blame Nova for not trusting him now. "I know I've made mistakes, Nova. But this time, I'm telling the truth. I didn't steal the cargo, and I didn't kill those people."

Nova raised an eyebrow. "You expect me to believe that? You expect me to trust you after everything that's happened?"

Lemuel took a deep breath. "I'm asking you to trust me, Nova. I know I don't deserve it, but I'm asking you to give me the benefit of the doubt. Let's investigate together and clear my name."

Nova's expression remained skeptical, but Lemuel could see the wheels turning in his head. Finally, Nova nodded. "Alright, Lemuel. We'll investigate together. But if I find out you're lying, you're done. You're out of the hunter's guild, and you'll never set foot on another ship again."

Lemuel nodded, relief washing over him. "I understand, Nova. And if I'm found to be lying, I'll accepts the consequences. But I'm telling you, I'm telling the truth. And I'll do everything in my power to prove it."

As they walked off the ship, Lemuel couldn't shake the feeling that they were walking into a trap. But he had no choice; he had to clear his name, no matter the cost.

As they approached the docking bay, Lemuel's comms device beeped. He pulled it out, and his eyes widened as he read the message. "Nova, it's the guildmaster. He's calling us to the guild hall. What does he want?"

Nova's grip on his arm tightened. "I think we're about to find out."

The two hunters approached the guild hall, their hearts pounding in their chests. What would they find inside? Only time would tell.

And as they walked through the doors, Lemuel couldn't help but wonder: who was waiting for them, and what did they want?
