第55章 "分岔时刻" (Fēn Chā Shí Kè) - "The Moment of Divergence"

星际猎人

**The 55th Chapter: The Split**

Lemuel's eyes met Nova's, the tension between them palpable. He knew he had to think fast, but his mind was a blank. Nova's grip on his arm tightened, and Lemuel felt a surge of adrenaline as he struggled to break free.

"Nova, stop!" Lemuel shouted, his voice echoing through the dimly lit corridor. "You're not thinking clearly. We can't trust Galen."

Nova's eyes flashed with anger, and he pulled Lemuel closer, his face inches from his. "How dare you question my judgment?" he growled.

Lemuel's heart raced as he tried to reason with Nova. "Galen is hiding something, Nova. I know it. And if we don't get to the bottom of it, we'll never make it out of this alive."

Nova's grip relaxed slightly, and Lemuel took advantage of the reprieve to pull away, trying to put some distance between them. "We need to split up and search for the truth," he said, his voice steady.

But Nova was already shaking his head, his face set in a stubborn expression. "No way, Lemuel. We're in this together, until the end."

Lemuel knew he had to convince Nova, or risk losing his friend forever. He took a deep breath and tried again. "Nova, listen to me. I know you're worried about Galen, but we can't let our emotions cloud our judgment. We need to be objective, and find out what's really going on."

Nova's gaze narrowed, and Lemuel could see the wheels turning in his mind. For a moment, he thought he saw a glimmer of understanding, but then Nova's face hardened once more.

"I'm not going to let you betray me, Lemuel," he said coldly. "I'm the captain of this ship, and I will do whatever it takes to keep my crew safe."

The words hung in the air, heavy with tension. Lemuel knew he had lost the battle, but he refused to give up. He would continue to fight for the truth, no matter what the cost.

As the two men stood there, locked in a silent struggle, the ship's intercom crackled to life. "Captain, we're receiving a distress signal from the planet below," the voice of the communications officer echoed through the comms system.

Nova's eyes snapped back to Lemuel, his face livid. "You're not thinking this through, Lemuel," he growled. "We can't ignore a distress signal. We have to go down there and see what's happening."

Lemuel felt a shiver run down his spine as he realized the implications. They were being pulled into a trap, and he had no idea how to escape.

The chapter ended with a cliffhanger, as Lemuel and Nova stood on the brink of disaster, unaware of the secrets that lay ahead.
