第32章 "Trust Betrayed Again"

星际猎人

**The 32nd Chapter: Shattered Trust**

Lemuel's words hung in the air like a challenge, his anger and frustration palpable. Nova's eyes, once so bright and full of life, now seemed to be drowning in a sea of guilt and shame.

"You knew, didn't you?" Lemuel's voice was low and even, but the hurt and betrayal behind it was clear.

Nova's gaze faltered, and for a moment, Lemuel thought he saw a glimmer of the old Nova, the one he had fallen for. But it was just a fleeting moment, replaced by a mask of cold calculation.

"I had to," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Lemuel's laughter was bitter. "You had to? What does that even mean?"

Nova's eyes flashed with defiance. "It means that I had to protect myself, Lemuel. I had to protect our mission."

Lemuel's anger boiled over. "Our mission? You call this a mission? You call lying to me, betraying my trust, our partnership? This is a joke, Nova. A cruel, cruel joke."

Nova's face twisted in pain, and for a moment, Lemuel felt a pang of regret. He remembered the Nova he used to know, the one who was kind and gentle and kind. But it was too late now. The trust was broken, and he didn't know if he could ever mend it.

"I'm sorry," Nova said, her voice cracking.

Lemuel's laughter was harsh. "Sorry? You're sorry? That's not enough, Nova. You need to tell me the truth. You need to tell me what's going on."

Nova's eyes seemed to bore into his soul, and for a moment, Lemuel felt like he was drowning in their depths. He saw something there, something that looked almost like fear.

"What do you know, Nova?" he asked, his voice low and menacing.

Nova's gaze faltered, and Lemuel knew he had her. He knew he had the upper hand.

"I know that we're not just hunting down pirates, Lemuel," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I know that we're part of something bigger. Something that could change the course of human history."

Lemuel's eyes narrowed. "What are you talking about?"

Nova's eyes seemed to flash with a hint of excitement, and Lemuel felt a shiver run down his spine.

"You'll find out soon enough," she said, her voice dripping with menace.

And with that, she turned and disappeared into the shadows, leaving Lemuel with more questions than answers. What was she talking about? What was going on? And how could he ever trust her again?

The chapter ends with Lemuel standing alone, his mind racing with the implications of Nova's words. He feels like he's plunged into a bottomless pit, and he's not sure how to climb out. But he knows one thing for sure - he's not going to let Nova get away with this. He's going to uncover the truth, no matter what it takes.
