第47章 "Fractured Loyalty"

天龙傲世

**Chapter 47: The Crack in the Foundation**

Lin Wan'er's eyes flashed with a mix of anger and sadness, her voice low and even as she spoke. "You're just like your father, always hiding behind your pride and pretending you're above everyone else."

Xie Yuan's face tightened, his jaw clenched in a silent snarl. "I'm nothing like him," he growled, his voice low and venomous. "I'm the one who's been carrying the weight of the Wei family's shame for all these years."

The words hung in the air like a challenge, as if Lin Wan'er was daring him to reveal the secrets he kept hidden. Xie Yuan's eyes seemed to bore into her very soul, as if searching for the truth behind her words.

Lin Wan'er's gaze never wavered, her eyes locked onto his like a hawk on its prey. "You're so quick to defend your pride, but when it comes to the people you care about, you're just as ruthless as your father. You're willing to sacrifice everything to protect your own reputation, even if it means destroying those around you."

The words cut deep, striking at the very heart of Xie Yuan's insecurities. He felt a familiar sting, a sense of betrayal and hurt that he had experienced all too often in his life. His eyes flashed with anger, and he felt his breath catch in his throat.

"You know nothing about me or my family," he spat, his voice dripping with venom. "You're just a foolish little girl who can't see beyond her own petty resentments."

Lin Wan'er's eyes seemed to flash with a hint of tears, but she held her ground, her voice steady. "I may not know everything about you, but I know that you're not the man I thought you were. You're not the man I loved."

The words hung in the air like a challenge, as if daring Xie Yuan to admit the truth. For a moment, their eyes locked in a silent battle, each trying to outmaneuver the other.

And then, without warning, Xie Yuan turned and strode away, leaving Lin Wan'er standing alone in the silence. The sound of his footsteps echoed through the courtyard, fading into the distance as he disappeared into the night.

Lin Wan'er stood there for a long moment, her eyes fixed on the spot where Xie Yuan had vanished. She felt a sense of loss and regret wash over her, as if she had lost a part of herself in the argument.

And then, as if driven by some unseen force, she turned and ran, her footsteps echoing through the night as she chased after Xie Yuan, determined to make him face the truth once and for all.

But as she ran, a faint glow appeared on the horizon, a flash of light that seemed to pulse with an otherworldly energy. The air seemed to grow thick and heavy, as if the very fabric of reality was beginning to unravel.

And in that moment, Lin Wan'er felt a sense of foreboding, a feeling that something was about to change forever.

To be continued...
