太古神王
**Chapter 31: The Silent Assassin**
Chu Ling'er's eyes fluttered, and Qin Wentian sensed a hint of desperation creeping into her demeanor. He leaned forward, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper. "Tell me, Chu Ling'er, what secrets are you hiding from me?"
Chu Ling'er's gaze faltered, and for a moment, Qin Wentian thought he saw a glimmer of fear reflected in her eyes. But her expression quickly snapped back into place, a mask of calm reason. "I'm hiding nothing from you, Qin Wentian. I swear it on my honor."
Qin Wentian's eyes narrowed. He knew that look, that tone – it was the same one she had used to deceive him before. But he couldn't quite put his finger on what was off. "Then why do I get the feeling you're hiding something?" he pressed, his voice low and menacing.
Chu Ling'er's smile faltered, and for a moment, Qin Wentian thought he saw a flicker of... something else. Guilt? Regret? He couldn't quite tell. "I'm not hiding anything," she repeated, her voice toneless.
Just then, a sudden commotion erupted outside, the sound of screams and shattering glass echoing through the corridors. Qin Wentian's eyes snapped toward the door, his instincts on high alert.
"Stay here," he commanded, his hand already reaching for his sword.
Chu Ling'er's eyes flashed with alarm, but before she could respond, Qin Wentian was gone, vanishing into the chaos like a ghost.
As he rushed outside, Qin Wentian's mind raced with possibilities. Who – or what – could be causing this destruction? And why was it happening now, at this moment?
He charged through the corridors, his sword at the ready, as the sounds of battle grew louder and more intense. Suddenly, a figure burst into view, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.
"Qin Wentian!" a voice cried out, echoing through the chaos. "You're the last one left!"
Qin Wentian's eyes locked onto the figure, his heart pounding with anticipation. Who was this? And what did they want?
As the figure approached, Qin Wentian could feel the air growing thick with tension. He knew that in this moment, his life – and the fate of the world – hung in the balance.
And then, everything went black.
