第139章 "Beyond the Lie"

**Chapter 139: The Web of Deceit Unravels**

程星's eyes flashed with determination as he responded to the engineer's skepticism. "I'm not asking you to believe me, I'm telling you what I know. And what I know is that the transmission is real, and it's not of this world."

The engineer's expression turned to one of disdain. "You're just saying that to cover your own behind," he sneered. "You're the one who's been dodging accountability for months, and now you're trying to spin some wild tale to get out of taking responsibility."

程星's face darkened, his anger simmering just below the surface. "I'm not afraid of accountability," he said, his voice low and even. "I'm afraid of what's really going on here. And I think you know it too, but you're too scared to admit it."

The engineer's eyes narrowed, and for a moment, it seemed like he might strike 程星. But then, something seemed to snap in his expression, and he turned away, his shoulders rigid with tension.

"I need to get out of here," he muttered, stalking away from the console.

程星 watched him go, his mind racing with the implications. Had he just pushed the engineer too far? Or had he finally cracked the code to the conspiracy?

As he turned back to the console, he noticed something that made his blood run cold. The transmission, the mysterious signal from the half-man constellation, was still playing in his mind. But now, he could hear something else, a faint whispering in the background, like the rustling of leaves.

"程星," the voice whispered, "you're getting close. But you're not close enough."

程星's heart skipped a beat as he spun around, scanning the room. Who was speaking to him? And how did they know his name?

Just as he was about to call out, the voice disappeared, leaving him with more questions than answers. And the engineer, who had been watching him from the shadows, vanished into thin air, leaving behind only a faint trail of smoke.

The mystery deepened, and 程星 knew that he had to get to the bottom of it, no matter what it took. But as he looked around the empty room, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched, that unseen eyes were burning into his skin.

And in that moment, he knew that the stakes had just gotten much higher. The game was afoot, and the fate of humanity hung in the balance.

To be continued...
