**Chapter 138: The Conspiracy Unfolds**
程星's words hung in the air like a challenge, and the engineer's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in frustration. "You expect me to believe that?" he spat, his voice dripping with venom.
程星's expression remained calm, but his eyes flashed with a hint of warning. "I'm telling you the truth," he repeated, his voice firm. "The transmission is not of this world. It's a message from the Three-Body Civilization."
The engineer's face turned red with rage, and he slammed his fist on the console. "You're crazy! You're playing with fire, 程星! We can't just take the word of some unknown civilization without proof."
程星 sighed, rubbing his temples as if to ward off a headache. "I know it's hard to believe, but the evidence is there. And I'm not alone in this. Dr. Li has already confirmed the authenticity of the transmission."
The engineer's eyes widened in shock, and he turned to 程星 with a mixture of fear and desperation. "What does this mean? What do they want from us?"
程星's expression turned grave. "I think they're trying to warn us. The Three-Body System is changing, and it's affecting the fabric of space-time. We're talking about interstellar politics here, not just some trivial scientific phenomenon."
The engineer's face paled, and he took a step back, as if trying to put distance between himself and the danger. "You're saying... they're trying to tell us something about the future?"
程星 nodded. "Yes, exactly. And I think we're the only ones who can hear them. But we need to be careful. There are forces at play here that we can't even begin to understand."
Just then, the console beeped, and a message appeared on the screen. The engineer's eyes widened as he read the words, his face growing pale.
"What is it?" 程星 asked, his eyes locked onto the screen.
The engineer's voice was barely above a whisper. "It's a warning... from the Three-Body Civilization. They're telling us to stop investigating further, to keep our findings secret."
程星's eyes flashed with anger. "We can't do that. We have to keep searching for the truth."
The engineer's face twisted in a mixture of fear and determination. "We have to be careful. We don't know who else is involved in this. We don't know what the stakes are."
程星 nodded, his eyes burning with a fierce determination. "We'll keep digging, no matter what it takes. We'll uncover the truth, even if it means putting ourselves in harm's way."
The engineer's eyes locked onto 程星's, a glimmer of understanding passing between them.
But just as it seemed like they were about to make a decision, the console beeped again, and a voice echoed through the speakers, cold and menacing.
"Your investigation has been terminated. You have been warned."
The screen went dark, and the engineer and 程星 were left staring into the void, their hearts racing with fear and uncertainty. What secrets lay hidden behind the veil of deception? And what would be the cost of uncovering them?
