**Chapter 48: The Battle of Wits**
Jaxon slammed the door shut behind him, his anger still coursing through his veins like a raging fire. He couldn't believe Lin Feng had betrayed him like that. The thought of it made his blood boil.
As he stormed into the living room, he saw Lin Feng sitting on the couch, looking calm and collected as always. Jaxon's eyes narrowed, his fists clenched in rage.
"So, you're still here," Jaxon spat, his voice low and menacing. "I thought you'd have the decency to leave after what you did."
Lin Feng raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. "What are you talking about, Jaxon?"
"Don't play dumb with me, Lin Feng," Jaxon snarled. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. You sold me out, betrayed me like a snake in the grass."
Lin Feng shrugged. "I didn't mean to hurt you, Jaxon. I was just trying to protect myself."
"Protect yourself?" Jaxon's laughter was bitter. "You think that's an excuse? You think you're the only one who's ever had to fight for survival?"
Lin Feng stood up, his eyes flashing with defiance. "I never claimed to be perfect, Jaxon. But I did everything I could to get us to where we are today."
"Where we are today?" Jaxon's voice rose in anger. "You mean where you are, and I'm left to rot? No, Lin Feng, you're not going to get away with this. I'm going to make sure you pay for what you did."
Lin Feng's eyes never left Jaxon's, but a hint of uncertainty crept into his voice. "Jaxon, listen to me. I know we've had our differences, but I never meant to hurt you. Can't we just talk about this like civilized humans?"
Jaxon's laughter was cold and mirthless. "Talk? You think you can just talk your way out of this? You're not even sorry, are you?"
Lin Feng's face twisted in a mixture of anger and regret. "I'm sorry, Jaxon. I really am. But what's done is done. Can't we just move forward from here?"
Jaxon's eyes never left Lin Feng's, but his mind was racing with thoughts of betrayal and deceit. He knew he had to confront Lin Feng, to make him pay for what he did. But a small part of him wondered if Lin Feng was just a pawn in a much larger game.
As the two former friends locked eyes, the air was thick with tension. The battle of wits had begun, and only one of them would emerge victorious.
As the standoff continued, the doorbell rang, shattering the silence. Lin Feng's eyes flickered towards the door, and for a moment, Jaxon thought he saw a glimmer of something there.
But before he could react, Lin Feng turned back to him, his expression frozen. "Who could that be?" he asked, his voice neutral.
Jaxon's eyes narrowed. "Who do you think?"
The doorbell rang again, and Lin Feng's eyes seemed to bore into Jaxon's. For a moment, it was as if the two of them were the only ones in the world.
And then, Lin Feng turned and walked towards the door, leaving Jaxon to wonder what was about to happen next.
As the door opened, a figure slipped in, their eyes scanning the room before locking onto Lin Feng. Jaxon's instincts screamed warning, but he couldn't move, frozen in place as the figure began to speak in a low, husky voice.
"I think it's time we had a little chat, Lin Feng. About Jaxon, and what he's been up to."
Lin Feng's eyes flickered towards Jaxon, and for a moment, Jaxon thought he saw a glimmer of fear there. But it was quickly replaced by a cold, calculating expression.
"Ah, perfect timing," Lin Feng said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I was just about to have a little chat with my good friend Jaxon here."
The figure's eyes never left Lin Feng's as they smiled, a cold, calculating smile that sent shivers down Jaxon's spine.
And in that moment, Jaxon knew that his world was about to be turned upside down.
