谍影风云
**Chapter 159: "The Devil's Advocate"**
I glared at Rachel, my finger still resting on the trigger. "How could you, Rachel? We were partners, friends... you knew everything about me."
Her expression remained impassive, but I detected a flicker of amusement in her eyes. "You're so naive, Lin. You thought we were friends? Ha! You were just a pawn in my game."
The words stung, but I refused to back down. "What do you want? Why did you betray us?"
Rachel smiled, her eyes glinting with malice. "I want what you have, Lin. Your skills, your reputation... and your access to the organization."
I felt a chill run down my spine. "You're working for them, aren't you?"
She nodded, her smile growing wider. "Yes, I am. And soon, I'll be the one pulling the strings."
I tightened my grip on the gun, my mind racing with the implications. Rachel was a traitor, working for the very organization we'd dedicated our lives to taking down. The thought of all the secrets she'd shared with me, all the trust I'd placed in her... it was too much to bear.
Just then, my comms device beeped, and I flinched, my hand jerking the trigger. Rachel gasped as the gun fired, the sound echoing through the room. I felt a jolt of adrenaline as I realized I'd almost killed her.
The device crackled to life, and a voice spoke, low and urgent. "Lin, this is Nightshade. We've received intel that Rachel has been compromised. Meet me at the old warehouse at midnight. Come alone."
I stared at Rachel, my mind racing with the possibilities. Was Nightshade setting me up? Or was Rachel's betrayal just the tip of the iceberg?
"I'll be there," I said, my voice low and even. "But I won't be alone."
Rachel's eyes narrowed, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of fear. "You're making a big mistake, Lin," she hissed. "You'll never make it out alive."
The words sent a shiver down my spine. What was Nightshade planning? And what did Rachel's betrayal mean for our mission?
As I turned to leave, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was trapped in a web of deceit, and the only way to escape was to unravel the threads of lies and treachery that surrounded me.
But little did I know, the devil was waiting for me at the old warehouse, with a surprise that would change everything...
