**Chapter 158: "The Web of Deceit Unravels"**

I watched Rachel's expression, searching for any sign of remorse or guilt, but her eyes remained cold and calculating. "You're just as bad as them," she spat, her voice dripping with venom.

I felt a pang of anger and disappointment, but I kept my gun steady. "What's going on, Rachel? Why did you betray me?"

She sneered. "You're too blind to see, aren't you? You still think we're on the same side. But we're not, Lin. We never were."

I furrowed my brow. "What are you talking about? We've worked together for years, taking down bad guys and protecting innocent lives. What's changed?"

Rachel's expression twisted into a grotesque smile. "Everything. You see, I've been playing a long game, and you've been just a pawn. My organization has been manipulating you from the beginning, using you to get close to the enemy."

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. "What organization? What enemy?"

Rachel chuckled. "You really are clueless, aren't you? The organization is known as 'The Nightshade.' And the enemy... is you, Lin. You're the one we've been trying to eliminate all along."

I couldn't process what I was hearing. Rachel, my partner, my friend... my enemy? The thought sent a shiver down my spine. I knew I had to get out of there, but Rachel was too quick. She disarmed me with a swift kick, sending my gun flying.

As I stumbled backward, I saw a figure emerge from the shadows. "Well, well, well. Look what we have here," he said, his voice dripping with malice.

It was Nightshade, the head of the organization Rachel had been working for. I could feel my heart racing in my chest as I realized the gravity of the situation.

"You're... you're the one who's been controlling Rachel all along?" I stammered.

Nightshade smiled. "That's right, Lin. And soon, you'll be just another pawn on the board of lies."

I knew I had to think fast, but my mind was reeling from the betrayal and the shock. As I looked at Rachel, I saw nothing but hatred and contempt in her eyes.

And then, everything went black.

To be continued...
