**Chapter 28: The Standoff**
White Xiaopu's anger boiled over, his voice low and menacing. "You're the one who's been deceiving me, using me for your own purposes. I thought we were friends, but I was blind to the truth."
The figure before him, a cold and calculating smile spreading across his face. "Ah, White Xiaopu, you're so quick to judgment. But let me tell you, my intentions were pure. I was only trying to help you reach your true potential."
White Xiaopu's eyes narrowed. "Help me? You call manipulating and using me help? You're the one who forced me to create the elixir, who pushed me to the brink of death. What kind of 'help' is that?"
The figure shrugged. "Necessity breeds creativity, my friend. And I knew you had the potential to create something truly remarkable. The elixir was just the beginning."
White Xiaopu's jaw clenched. "I won't let you get away with this. I'll make sure you pay for what you've done."
The figure chuckled. "Oh, I don't think that's possible. You see, I have...insurance. Something that will ensure my safety, no matter what you try to do."
White Xiaopu's eyes flashed with anger. "What are you talking about?"
The figure's smile grew wider. "Your friends, White Xiaopu. The ones you're so fond of. They're all in on it, just like me. You're so blind to their true intentions, but I'll make sure you see the truth soon enough."
White Xiaopu's world began to spin out of control. His friends? Betrayed him? The thought was unbearable. He felt a cold dread creeping up his spine as he realized the extent of the betrayal.
"You're lying," White Xiaopu spat, but his voice was shaking with uncertainty.
The figure chuckled again. "Oh, no, White Xiaopu. I'm telling the truth. And soon, you'll see it for yourself."
With that, the figure turned and disappeared into the shadows, leaving White Xiaopu alone and reeling. He felt like he was drowning in a sea of betrayal and deceit, with no lifeline in sight.
As he stood there, his mind racing with the implications of the figure's words, a faint whisper echoed in his ear. "The truth will soon be revealed, White Xiaopu. And you won't like what you see."
White Xiaopu's heart skipped a beat as he turned to face the speaker. But there was no one there. The whisper seemed to come from all around him, echoing off the walls and leaving him with more questions than answers.
And then, the lights went out, plunging White Xiaopu into darkness. He was left standing there, alone and helpless, as the world around him seemed to unravel before his eyes.
