**Chapter 111: The Shadow of Doubt**

White Xiaopu's eyes remained fixed on the stranger, his mind racing with the implications of the accusation. He had been searching for Ling'er for days, scouring the city and questioning every lead, and yet, he had found nothing. The stranger's words had struck a chord, however, and now, he couldn't shake off the feeling that he had missed something crucial.

"Who are you?" White Xiaopu demanded, his tone firm but laced with a hint of uncertainty.

The stranger's eyes seemed to bore into his soul, and for a moment, White Xiaopu felt like he was drowning in their depths. "I am someone who knows the truth," he replied, his voice low and menacing.

White Xiaopu's grip on his sword tightened, his instincts screaming at him to be cautious. "What truth?"

The stranger smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "The truth about Ling'er's disappearance, and the truth about your own role in it."

White Xiaopu's eyes flashed with anger, and he took a step forward, his sword at the ready. "How dare you!" he spat.

The stranger didn't flinch, his eyes remaining fixed on White Xiaopu. "You should be careful, White Xiaopu. The truth is a double-edged sword. It can set you free, or it can destroy you."

White Xiaopu's mind reeled as he processed the stranger's words. He had always been so focused on finding Ling'er, on proving his innocence, that he had neglected to consider the possibility that he might be hiding something from himself.

"Who are you to tell me this?" he demanded, his voice shaking with rage.

The stranger chuckled, a dry, mirthless sound. "You'll find out soon enough. Just remember, the truth is always hidden in plain sight. You just need to look carefully enough."

With that, the stranger turned and disappeared into the night, leaving White Xiaopu alone and reeling. He stood there for a long moment, his mind racing with the implications of the stranger's words.

As he stood there, he felt a creeping sense of doubt. Was he really innocent? Had he been blind to the truth all along? The questions swirled in his mind like a maelstrom, and he knew that he had to find the answers.

But as he turned to leave, he heard a faint whisper in his ear. "Look to the past, White Xiaopu. The truth is hidden there."

White Xiaopu spun around, but there was no one there. The stranger was gone, and he was left alone to face the darkness.

And as he walked away, he knew that his life would never be the same again.
