第108章 "Silent Screams in the Dark"

一念永恒

**Chapter 108: The Cries of the Innocent**

The figure, a person White Xiaopu didn't recognize, stood before him, their eyes blazing with accusation. "You're the one responsible for Ling'er's disappearance," they spat, their voice like a venomous snake's hiss.

White Xiaopu's mind reeled as he scanned the courtyard, searching for any sign of Ling'er. His heart sank as he realized he was alone. "Who are you?" he demanded, trying to keep his voice steady.

The stranger took a step closer, their eyes never leaving White Xiaopu's face. "I'm Ling'er's cousin, Bai Tong. And I know you're hiding something. You came to our courtyard, asking questions about Ling'er's disappearance, and now she's gone. You're the only one who knows what happened."

White Xiaopu's instincts screamed at him to deny the accusations, but a rational part of him knew Bai Tong wasn't entirely wrong. He had been in the courtyard, asking questions, and Ling'er had vanished soon after. The seed of doubt was sown, and White Xiaopu's mind began to race with possibilities.

"Bai Tong, I...I don't know what you're talking about," White Xiaopu stammered, trying to appear innocent.

Bai Tong's eyes narrowed. "Don't play dumb with me. I know you're hiding something. You're just as guilty as the one who took Ling'er."

White Xiaopu's heart sank as he realized Bai Tong was right. He had been in the courtyard, and now Ling'er was gone. A cold sweat dripped down his forehead as he faced the consequences of his actions.

But before Bai Tong could take another step closer, a deafening roar shook the courtyard, causing both of them to stumble back. The sound of crashing stone and shattering glass echoed through the air, followed by the sound of screams and wailing.

The courtyard was under attack.

As White Xiaopu and Bai Tong stared at each other in shock, a figure emerged from the chaos, her eyes blazing with fury. "You're the one who's been hiding the truth!" she shouted, her voice like a thunderclap.

White Xiaopu's eyes widened as he realized the figure was none other than Ling'er's mother, Madame He. Her face was twisted with rage, and her eyes seemed to bore into White Xiaopu's very soul.

The courtyard erupted into chaos, with screams and shouts filling the air. White Xiaopu's world was turned upside down, and he found himself facing a reality he never could have imagined.
