第98章 "Truth Behind the Veil"

星际猎人

**The 98th Chapter: The Web of Conspiracy**

Nova's frustration boiled over, and she slammed her fist on the table. "Lemuel, stop playing coy! I know you're hiding something. What is it?" she demanded, her voice low and menacing.

Lemuel's expression remained impassive, but his eyes betrayed a flicker of surprise. "Nova, I'm telling you the truth. I don't know what you're talking about," he said, his tone dry and unconvincing.

Nova's gaze pierced through his defenses. She had seen the glint of deception in his eyes, and her instincts screamed at her to get to the bottom of it. "Don't lie to me, Lemuel. I've seen the records. You're not who you say you are," she said, her voice rising.

Lemuel's face darkened, and he leaned back in his chair, his eyes flashing with annoyance. "What are you talking about, Nova? You're starting to scare me," he said, his voice laced with sarcasm.

Nova's eyes narrowed. She had seen this act before – the pretending to be innocent, the feigned outrage. But she wasn't buying it. She knew Lemuel was hiding something, and she was determined to find out what it was.

Just as the tension between them was about to boil over, the comms device on the table beeped, breaking the silence. Lemuel's eyes flicked to the device, and he hesitated for a moment before answering.

"Captain's log, this is Lemuel. Go ahead," he said, his voice neutral.

Nova's eyes locked onto Lemuel's face, and she felt a surge of excitement. What secrets was he hiding? And what was the captain's log?

As Lemuel listened to the comms device, his expression changed, and he glanced at Nova with a hint of warning. "Nova, it seems we have a situation," he said, his voice low and serious.

Nova's instincts screamed at her to be cautious. What was going on? And why did Lemuel's warning sound so ominous?

As the two of them exchanged a tense glance, the comms device beeped again, signaling the end of the transmission. Lemuel's eyes never left Nova's, but she could sense the challenge hidden behind his calm exterior.

"The captain's log has been compromised," he said, his voice dripping with gravity. "We have to leave immediately. We don't have a choice."

Nova's heart raced as she stood up, her mind racing with the implications. What had really happened? And what secrets was Lemuel hiding?

As they filed out of the briefing room, Nova felt the weight of the unknown settling upon her. She knew that she had to get to the truth, no matter the cost. The web of deceit was about to unravel, and she was ready to confront the conspirators head-on.

But what lay ahead? Only time would tell. The adventure was far from over, and Nova was ready to face whatever lay in store for her.
