第83章 "Shattered Trust"

星际猎人

**The 83rd Chapter: The Betrayal of Trust**

Lemuel's words cut through the air like a knife, leaving Nova reeling. She took a step back, her eyes flashing with a mix of guilt and defiance. "How dare you," she spat, her voice trembling.

Anger and hurt coursed through Lemuel's veins, his fists clenched at his sides. "How dare you?" he echoed, his voice rising. "You lied to me, Nova. You betrayed my trust."

The forest was silent, the only sound the heavy breathing of the two hunters. The air was thick with tension, and it seemed like the trees themselves were watching the confrontation.

Nova's expression hardened, her jaw set in determination. "I did what I had to do," she said, her voice firm. "I had to protect the Federation."

Lemuel's eyes narrowed, his grip on his rifle tightening. "Protect the Federation?" he repeated, his voice heavy with sarcasm. "By betraying me? By lying to me?"

Nova's eyes never left Lemuel's face, her gaze unwavering. "I didn't have a choice," she said, her voice softening. "The Federation is in danger, Lemuel. We have to do whatever it takes to protect it."

Lemuel's face twisted in disgust. "Whatever it takes?" he repeated, his voice full of loathing. "You're starting to sound like one of the Federation's propaganda machines. Whatever it takes to get what you want, right? Even if it means sacrificing the people you care about most."

Nova's face fell, her eyes welling up with tears. "You don't understand, Lemuel," she said, her voice breaking. "You don't know what we're up against. The Federation is on the brink of collapse. If we don't act now, it will be the end of everything."

Lemuel's anger boiled over, his rifle flying out of his hands as he charged at Nova. "You're a traitor," he spat, his fists flying at her face.

The two hunters clashed, their bodies crashing together as they rolled across the forest floor. The sound of their struggle echoed through the trees, and the world around them seemed to fade away. It was just Lemuel and Nova, locked in a battle for survival and trust.

As they rolled, Lemuel's hands closed around Nova's throat, his fingers digging deep into her neck. "You're a traitor," he growled, his voice low and menacing.

Nova's eyes fluttered shut, her body going limp. But just as Lemuel was about to deliver the final blow, a loud crash echoed through the forest, followed by the sound of footsteps pounding through the underbrush.

Lemuel's head snapped up, his eyes scanning the trees for the source of the noise. And then, he saw him - a figure emerging from the darkness, a blaster clutched in his hand.

"Ah, Lemuel," the figure said, his voice dripping with amusement. "I see you're having a bit of a disagreement with your friend Nova here."

Lemuel's eyes narrowed, his grip on Nova's throat tightening. "Who are you?" he growled, his voice deadly.

The figure chuckled, a cold, calculating glint in his eye. "Someone who's been watching you, Lemuel. Someone who knows all about your little secret."

And with that, the forest fell silent, the only sound the heavy breathing of the four hunters. The game was afoot, and nothing would ever be the same again.
