第27章 "Trust's Tainted Edge"

星际猎人

**The 27th Chapter: The Price of Trust**

Lemuel's eyes never left Nova's, his gaze burning with a mixture of suspicion and curiosity. Nova's expression remained impassive, her eyes flicking between Lemuel's face and the security cameras.

"I'm not hiding anything, Lemuel," Nova said, her voice even and unconvincing.

Lemuel's instincts screamed at him to believe her, but his mind was clouded by the conflicting emotions. He had seen the way Nova worked, her quick wit and sharp instincts making her a formidable ally or enemy.

"I don't know what you're hiding, Nova," Lemuel said, his voice firm but measured. "But I know you're not telling me the truth."

Nova's eyes flashed with a hint of irritation, but she maintained her composure. "You're right, Lemuel. I am hiding something. But it's not what you think."

Lemuel's grip on his rifle tightened, his finger hovering over the trigger. "What is it, then?"

Nova took a step closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "I know what happened to your sister, Lemuel. I know who took her."

Lemuel's eyes snapped back to Nova's, his heart racing with a mix of emotions. "What do you mean? Who took her?"

Nova's gaze dropped, her voice barely audible. "I don't know for sure, but I think it's connected to the Deimos Corporation. They're hiding something big, Lemuel. Something that could change the course of the galaxy."

Lemuel's mind reeled as he processed Nova's words. The Deimos Corporation, the largest and most powerful corporation in the galaxy, was rumored to be involved in all sorts of shady dealings. But taking his sister? No, it couldn't be.

"Nova, I trust you," Lemuel said, his voice firm. "But I need to know more. Take me to whoever knows what's going on."

Nova's eyes locked onto Lemuel's, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "Follow me, Lemuel. But be warned, the truth is not what you're expecting."

As Lemuel followed Nova through the docking bay, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was walking into a trap. But he had to know the truth, no matter the cost.

They reached a small, unmarked door hidden behind a stack of crates. Nova's eyes flicked to Lemuel's, a warning glint in her eye.

"Remember, trust no one," she whispered.

Lemuel nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. He pushed open the door, and a sea of darkness enveloped them.
