**Chapter 114: The Web of Deceit**
Nova's eyes narrowed as she gazed at Lemuel, her mind racing with the implications of his words. "The Nova Emporium, our trusted partner, has been hiding something from us?" She couldn't believe it. The Emporium had always been a bastion of integrity, providing them with valuable resources and information during their excursions.
Lemuel's expression was somber. "I know it's hard to accept, Nova, but I've seen the evidence. They're involved in some shady dealings, and I think it's connected to the recent string of attacks on our clients."
Nova's grip on the armrest of her chair tightened. "Attacks?" She felt a surge of anger and betrayal. "You're telling me that our own partner is involved in sabotaging our work?"
Lemuel nodded. "I'm afraid so. I've been investigating on the down-low, and the trail leads straight to the Emporium."
Nova's thoughts were a jumble of emotions. She couldn't believe that the Emporium, an organization she had trusted with her life, could be involved in such deceit. She felt a pang of doubt. Had they been blinded by their reliance on the Emporium?
As they sat in silence, the tension in the air was palpable. Nova's mind was racing with questions. What did this mean for their mission? For their clients? For the entire galaxy?
Suddenly, the comms system crackled to life. Nova's eyes snapped to the screen, where a holographic message from the Nova Emporium's CEO, Helios, awaited.
"Lemuel, Nova," Helios's voice was calm, but with a hint of menace. "I'm aware of your little investigation. I suggest you drop it. The Emporium's interests are not yours to question."
Nova's anger boiled over. "You're involved in these attacks, aren't you?" She spat the words out.
Helios's expression remained unruffled. "Let's just say that the Emporium has... shifted its focus. And you, Lemuel, are no longer a part of it."
Lemuel's face darkened. "You're telling me I'm fired?"
Helios nodded. "Effective immediately. You and Nova are no longer welcome at the Emporium. You're a liability, and we can't have that."
The transmission ended, leaving Nova and Lemuel in stunned silence. The game had changed. The stakes were higher. And the web of deceit was spreading its tentacles across the galaxy.
As they sat there, Nova's mind racing with the implications, she knew that their next move would be the most critical one yet. Would they be able to uncover the truth behind the Emporium's betrayal, or would they become its latest victims? The countdown had begun, and the fate of the galaxy hung in the balance.
