第163章 "Bloodied Loyalty"
网游之天下无双
**163. The Unbreakable Bond**
The tavern's patrons held their breath as Old Ghost's anger seemed to suffocate the very air from the room. Lin Chao, however, remained steadfast, his eyes locked onto Old Ghost's red-faced glare. The tension was palpable, the air thick with unspoken words.
"How could you, Lin Chao?" Old Ghost's voice was like a hot knife, cutting through the silence. "You're supposed to be my partner, my ally. But instead, you're just a traitor, using me for your own gain."
Lin Chao's expression remained calm, his voice steady. "Old Ghost, I'm not a traitor. I'm just trying to achieve our goal, to get to the top of the rankings."
Old Ghost's laughter was like a snarl. "Our goal? You're talking about your own goal, Lin Chao. You're just using me to get ahead, to get the recognition and the rewards. But I won't let you do it. I won't let you betray me like this."
Lin Chao's eyes flashed with anger. "I'm not betraying you, Old Ghost. I'm just playing the game, just like you are. But you're the one who's been holding me back, who's been holding us back. You're the one who's been too scared to take risks, too scared to push ourselves to the limit."
Old Ghost's face turned redder, his eyes blazing with fury. "How dare you! You're just a young upstart, thinking you can tell me what to do. But I'll show you, Lin Chao. I'll show you who's boss."
The patrons of the tavern held their breath as Old Ghost slammed his fist onto the table, the sound echoing through the room. Lin Chao, however, remained calm, his eyes never leaving Old Ghost's face.
"I'm not afraid of you, Old Ghost," Lin Chao said, his voice steady. "I'm not afraid of your temper, or your arrogance. Because I know that I'm the better player, that I'm the one who can take us to the top."
The air in the tavern seemed to thicken, as if the very fabric of reality was being stretched to its limits. Old Ghost's face was a deep shade of red, his eyes blazing with fury. Lin Chao, however, remained calm, his eyes fixed on Old Ghost's face.
And then, in an instant, everything changed. Old Ghost's face went from red to white, his eyes frozen in shock. Lin Chao's eyes never left his, but his expression changed, a hint of sadness and regret creeping into his eyes.
"What's wrong, Old Ghost?" Lin Chao asked, his voice softening.
Old Ghost's voice was barely a whisper. "I...I remember something. Something that changes everything."
The patrons of the tavern leaned in, their breath caught in their collective throat. Lin Chao's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with possibilities.
"What is it, Old Ghost?" he asked, his voice low and urgent.
Old Ghost's eyes locked onto Lin Chao's, a look of determination etched onto his face.
"It's about our past, Lin Chao. About what really happened all those years ago."
The air in the tavern seemed to vibrate with tension, the secrets and lies of the past hanging precariously in the balance. Lin Chao's eyes never left Old Ghost's face, his mind racing with the implications.
And then, in an instant, everything went black.
