第79章:「权力的考验」(The Test of Power)

Captain Zhang's words had sparked a silent confrontation in the room. Lin Hao's eyes never left Captain Zhang's face, his expression a mix of determination and defiance. The tension was palpable, and the air was thick with anticipation.

"Captain Zhang, I understand your concerns," Lin Hao said finally, his voice low and even. "But I'm not asking for a promotion. I'm asking for a chance to prove myself."

Captain Zhang's expression remained unyielding. "You're a new recruit, Lin Hao. You don't have the experience or the authority to take on tasks like this."

Lin Hao's eyes flashed with anger, but he kept his temper in check. "I may not have experience, Captain, but I've got skills. And I'm willing to learn."

The room fell silent once more, the only sound the heavy breathing of the soldiers. Captain Zhang's face was a mask of stone, but Lin Hao could see the faintest glimmer of curiosity in his eyes.

Suddenly, the door burst open and a young lieutenant strode in. "Captain Zhang, we've received a report of a terrorist attack in the nearby city. We need someone to investigate and neutralize the threat."

Captain Zhang's eyes snapped onto Lin Hao. "Lin Hao, I think you're the perfect person for the job. Are you up for it?"

Lin Hao's heart skipped a beat. This was his chance to prove himself. He nodded firmly, his determination plain on his face.

But just as he was about to leave, the young lieutenant caught his arm. "Wait, Captain. I think there's something you should know."

"What is it?" Captain Zhang asked impatiently.

"The terrorist group is led by a former soldier. Someone who used to serve under your command, Captain."

Captain Zhang's expression turned cold, his eyes narrowing. "Which one?"

The lieutenant hesitated. "Dong Li, Captain. He was your top soldier, but he was discharged for misconduct. Now he's leading a group of terrorists and causing chaos in the city."

Captain Zhang's face was a mixture of anger and concern. He turned to Lin Hao. "Lin Hao, this is not a simple task. Are you sure you're ready for this?"

Lin Hao nodded again, his jaw set. "I'm ready, Captain. Let's go."

As they rushed out of the room, the lieutenant called out after them. "Captain Zhang, be careful. Dong Li is not someone to be underestimated."

Captain Zhang's eyes flashed with determination. "Don't worry, we'll take care of him."

But as they disappeared into the night, a faint whisper echoed back. "You'll never take me alive, Captain."

The chapter ended with a cliffhanger, leaving the reader wondering what will happen next. Will Lin Hao and Captain Zhang be able to take down Dong Li and his terrorist group? The outcome is far from certain, and the tension is palpable.
