**第55章:混乱的末日**
The corridor was a blur of chaos as the mercenaries closed in. Lin Hao's training kicked in, his senses on high alert as he scrambled to his feet. He took cover behind a nearby wall, his rifle at the ready.
"Lin Hao, take out the sniper on the left!" Zhao Jium yelled, his voice carrying above the din of gunfire.
Lin Hao nodded, his eyes locked on the mercenary's rifle. He took a deep breath, then squeezed off a shot. The mercenary crumpled, his rifle clattering to the ground.
But the others didn't falter. They continued to pour in, their bullets whizzing past Lin Hao's head. He ducked, his heart racing, as Zhao Jium's voice rang out again.
"Retreat! Fall back to the last checkpoint!"
Lin Hao didn't hesitate. He scrambled to his feet, his rifle still smoking, and ran back down the corridor, the mercenaries hot on his heels.
As they burst through the checkpoint, Lin Hao's heart sank. The room was a mess, equipment scattered everywhere, and one of their own team members lay motionless on the ground.
"Medic!" Zhao Jium yelled, as Lin Hao saw the extent of the damage.
He rushed over to help, his training kicking in as he assessed the wound. It was severe, but he knew they couldn't stay there. They had to keep moving.
As they made their way through the winding corridors, Lin Hao's mind raced. They had lost one of their own, and the mercenaries were closing in. He could feel their breath on the back of his neck, and his grip on his rifle tightened.
Suddenly, the corridor went dark. Lin Hao's heart leapt as the lights flickered, and he heard the sound of footsteps echoing through the darkness.
"Who's there?" Zhao Jium demanded, his voice low and menacing.
But there was no response. The footsteps grew louder, closer, and Lin Hao's heart pounded in his chest.
And then, a figure loomed out of the darkness. Lin Hao's finger tightened on the trigger, ready to fire...
But as the figure stepped closer, Lin Hao's eyes widened in shock. It was a fellow commando, but one he had never seen before.
"What are you doing here?" Lin Hao demanded, his rifle still trained on the newcomer.
The commando's eyes flickered, and for a moment, Lin Hao thought he saw a glimmer of recognition.
"I'm here to help," the commando said, his voice low and urgent. "But we're running out of time. The mercenaries are closing in, and we have to get out of here, NOW."
Lin Hao's heart skipped a beat as he hesitated. Was this commando friend or foe? And what did they mean by "running out of time"?
As he looked at Zhao Jium, he saw the same uncertainty mirrored in his commander's eyes.
What would they do next? Would they trust this stranger, or would they turn them in?
The fate of their mission hung precariously in the balance, as Lin Hao's heart pounded with anticipation...
