第43章 "Silent Fury"

天龙傲世

**Chapter 43: The Turning Point**

Xie Yuan's eyes remained fixed on Lin Wan'er, his mind racing with emotions. He knew he had to apologize, but his pride wouldn't let him. The silence between them grew thicker, like a fog that refused to lift.

"Why did you have to say that, Lin Wan'er?" Xie Yuan's voice was low and even, but the words dripped with venom. "You're always so quick to judge me, to assume the worst about me. Can't you see that I'm trying to do what's right?"

Lin Wan'er's gaze never wavered. "You're trying to do what's right? Really? Then why did you betray your own brother's trust? Why did you go behind his back and forge that letter?"

Xie Yuan's face twisted in anger. "That was necessary! He was going to get himself killed, and I had to protect him. You don't understand the situation."

"I understand that you're a coward," Lin Wan'er spat. "You're too afraid to stand up to your brother, to tell him the truth. You'd rather hide behind a fake letter and betray him than face the consequences of your own actions."

Xie Yuan's eyes flashed with fury. "How dare you! You have no right to judge me, Lin Wan'er. You're just a wandering swordsman, a nobody. What do you know about family or loyalty?"

Lin Wan'er's face turned cold. "I know that loyalty is about standing by those you care about, no matter what. You may think you're loyal to your brother, but you're just using him to further your own interests. You're using him to get ahead, to gain power and prestige in the martial world."

Xie Yuan's face reddened with rage. "Shut up, Lin Wan'er! You're just a foolish little girl, talking out of turn. You don't know anything about the world or the way it works."

But Lin Wan'er wasn't done. "I know that I'll never be like you, Xie Yuan. I'll never be a traitor, a coward, or a liar. I'll always stand by my principles, no matter what the cost. You may be the greatest swordsman in the world, but you'll never be a hero like my brother. You'll never be worthy of the name 'Hero of the North'."

The words hit Xie Yuan like a punch to the gut. He stumbled backward, his eyes wide with shock. For a moment, he was speechless, unable to respond to Lin Wan'er's accusations.

And then, something inside of him snapped. He knew he couldn't keep pretending, couldn't keep hiding behind his pride and his arrogance. He knew he had to face the truth, to face his own demons and find a way to make things right.

But as he turned to leave, he felt a hand grasp his arm, holding him back.

"What are you doing, Xie Yuan?" Lin Wan'er's voice was cold, detached. "Are you going to run away again, to hide behind your sword and your pride?"

Xie Yuan's eyes met hers, and for a moment, he saw something there that he hadn't seen before - a glimmer of hope, a chance to make things right.

And then, everything went black.

To be continued...
