天龙傲世

**Chapter 144: The Devil's Bargain**

The silence between Xie Yuan and Lin Wan'er was oppressive, the only sound being the soft rustling of leaves in the wind. Xie Yuan's eyes seemed to burn with an inner fire, while Lin Wan'er's face was a mask of cold calculation.

"You're really going to do it, aren't you?" Xie Yuan's voice was low and menacing, his words dripping with anger and resentment.

Lin Wan'er's gaze never wavered. "I have no choice," she replied, her voice devoid of emotion. "The weight of my family's honor demands that I take a stand against you."

Xie Yuan snorted in disgust. "Your family's honor? Ha! You're nothing but a pawn in your family's game. And I'm the one who's going to knock you off the board."

Lin Wan'er's eyes flashed with anger, but she kept her composure. "You may be able to defeat me, Xie Yuan, but you'll never win. The people will never accept you as their leader."

Xie Yuan's laughter was like a cold blade cutting through the air. "The people? Ha! They're just pawns to be used and discarded. And I'm the one who's going to use them to get what I want."

The air was electric with tension as the two enemies stood facing each other, their hatred and resentment simmering just below the surface. And then, without warning, Lin Wan'er turned and strode away, leaving Xie Yuan seething with anger and frustration.

"You haven't seen the last of me, Xie Yuan," she called out over her shoulder, her voice echoing through the trees.

Xie Yuan's eyes narrowed to slits as he watched her disappear into the distance. "Oh, I'm shaking in my boots," he muttered to himself, his hand instinctively reaching for the hilt of his sword.

But as he turned to leave, he was confronted by a figure emerging from the shadows. It was none other than his old friend, Wu Zhen.

"Xie Yuan, what's going on?" Wu Zhen asked, his voice low and concerned. "I've been tracking you for hours. What's all the commotion about?"

Xie Yuan's gaze was cold and calculating. "Just a little disagreement with Lin Wan'er," he replied, his voice dripping with venom. "But it's nothing to worry about. Just a minor setback."

Wu Zhen's eyes narrowed. "Xie Yuan, I know you. You're not going to take this lying down. You're going to strike back, and hard."

Xie Yuan's smile was cold and calculated. "You know me too well, old friend. But this time, I'm not going to strike back alone. This time, I'm going to make a devil's bargain, and reap the rewards of the deal."

The air was heavy with foreboding as Xie Yuan's words hung in the air, like a challenge thrown down to the gods themselves. And as the darkness closed in around him, Xie Yuan knew that he was on the brink of a decision that would change the course of his life forever.
