**Chapter 124: The Truth Revealed**

程星's eyes locked onto the engineer's, a mixture of desperation and defiance burning within. He knew he had to defend himself, to prove that he wasn't involved in the conspiracy that had shaken the scientific community to its core.

"I'm telling you, I had nothing to do with it," 程星 said, his voice steady but his hands trembling slightly. "I'm just a researcher, a scientist. I don't have the expertise or the resources to hack into the satellite's system."

The engineer's expression remained skeptical, his eyes narrowing as he leaned forward. "And what about the cryptic message you received from the mysterious sender? Can you explain that?"

程星's face fell, his mind racing back to the fateful night when he had received the message. "I...I don't know how to explain it," he admitted, his voice cracking. "It was just a random transmission, a bunch of code and symbols. I thought it was a prank, but...but now I'm not so sure."

The engineer's gaze bore into him, his eyes piercing. "程星, you're hiding something from me. I can see it in your eyes. You're afraid of what I might find out, aren't you?"

程星 felt a surge of anger and panic, his mind racing with the implications. He knew he had to be careful, to tread a fine line between revealing too much and revealing too little. But the engineer's words had struck a nerve, and now he was left feeling exposed and vulnerable.

"I'm telling you, I don't know what you're talking about," 程星 repeated, his voice firm but laced with unease.

The engineer leaned back in his chair, a calculating glint in his eye. "I think we're at a crossroads, 程星. Either you tell me the truth, or we end this investigation right here and now."

程星's heart was racing, his mind spinning with the possibilities. He knew he couldn't back down, not now, not when the stakes were so high. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for what was to come.

"Fine," he said, his voice low and even. "I'll tell you the truth. But you have to promise me one thing: you have to listen without judgment."

The engineer raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "What makes you think I'll give you that promise?"

程星's eyes locked onto his, a fierce determination burning within. "Because if you don't, I'll make sure that everyone knows the truth. I'll expose the conspiracy, no matter what it takes."

The engineer's eyes narrowed, his mouth twitching into a cold smile. "Oh, I think I'll make that promise," he said, his voice dripping with ice. "But only because I want to see exactly how far you're willing to go to protect your secrets."

As the words hung in the air, 程星 knew that he was standing at the precipice of a great divide. He could feel the weight of the truth bearing down on him, threatening to consume him whole. But he also knew that he had no choice but to keep going, to push forward no matter what lay ahead.

And so, with a deep breath, he began to speak, the words tumbling out of his mouth like a dam had burst. The engineer listened intently, his eyes locked onto 程星's as the truth began to unfold. But as the words reached the end of their journey, 程星 knew that he had only just begun to uncover the secrets that lay hidden beneath the surface.
