Chapter 102: The Unseen Hand

程星's anger and frustration boiled over, her voice rising in indignation. "You're telling me that the entire universe is on the brink of collapse, and you're just now mentioning it? And you expect me to believe that you're the only one who knows about it?"

The engineer, Dr. Zhang, looked taken aback by her outburst. "I...I'm sorry, 程星. I didn't mean to keep it from you. It's just that...well, you have to understand, the situation is extremely delicate. We can't just go around broadcasting the news to the entire universe without knowing what the implications are."

程星's glare intensified. "Delicate? Delicate?! The universe is collapsing, and you think it's delicate? You're playing with fire, Dr. Zhang. And what's with the 'we' business? Who's 'we'? Who else knows about this?"

Dr. Zhang sighed, rubbing his temples. "Look, 程星, I'm going to have to trust you with this. There's a...a group of us who have been working on this problem for a while now. We're not sure what's causing the collapse, but we have a theory. And we think that you're the only one who can help us stop it."

程星's eyes narrowed. "A theory? What kind of theory? And what do you mean by 'stop it'? Stop what? The collapse?"

Dr. Zhang hesitated before answering. "The...the cosmic crisis. Yes, that's what we call it. It's...it's a phenomenon that's been affecting the fabric of space-time itself. We're not sure what's causing it, but we know that if we don't stop it, the entire universe will be torn apart."

程星's mind reeled at the implications. "Torn apart? What do you mean? How can that even be possible?"

Dr. Zhang's expression turned grim. "We've seen it happen before, 程星. On other planets, other galaxies. The cosmic crisis is like a cancer, spreading and consuming everything in its path. And we think that it's all connected to the...the alien signals we've been receiving."

程星's eyes widened. "Alien signals? What do you mean? You're talking about the signals from the...the...whatever it was that sent us the message?"

Dr. Zhang nodded. "Yes, that's right. The...the Proxima signal, I think we call it. We're not sure what it means, but we think that it might be the key to stopping the cosmic crisis. And we need your help to decipher it."

程星 felt a shiver run down her spine. She knew that she was in way over her head, but she also knew that she couldn't back down now. She had to know the truth, no matter how scary it was.

"I'll help you," she said finally, her voice firm. "But you have to tell me everything. I want to know what's going on, and what we're up against."

Dr. Zhang nodded, a small smile on his face. "I promise you, 程星, we'll tell you everything. But are you prepared for what you're going to hear?"

程星 took a deep breath, steeling herself for what was to come. "I'm ready," she said, her voice steady. "Tell me the truth."

As she spoke, the lights in the room flickered, and a strange, pulsating energy began to build in the air. It was as if the very fabric of reality was about to tear apart, revealing a truth that would change everything forever.

And in that moment, 程星 knew that she was in for the most intense and terrifying journey of her life.
