**Chapter 74: The Face of Defeat**
Lin Feng's eyes, once burning with determination, now seemed to hold a dull resignation. He had always been the ace of the team, the one who could lead them to victory no matter the circumstances. But now, as he stood on the worn-out court, he couldn't help but feel like he was staring at his own mortality.
"What's going on, Lin?" his teammate, Wang Zhen, asked, concern etched on his face. "You've been struggling lately, and it's like you're not even trying out there."
Lin Feng's gaze snapped back to reality, and he forced a weak smile. "I'm fine, Wang Zhen. Just a little off, that's all."
But Wang Zhen wasn't buying it. "Off? Lin, you're not even shooting the ball. You're just standing there, watching the game pass you by."
Lin Feng's face burned with embarrassment, and he quickly looked away. He knew Wang Zhen was right. He had been slumping all season, and it was starting to affect the team's morale.
Just then, the opposing team's coach, a sly old man with a perpetual grin, strolled onto the court. "Ah, Lin Feng, my old friend," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "It seems like your shot has lost its magic. What's the matter, did you forget how to play?"
Lin Feng's anger flared, and he felt his fists clenching. How dare this guy talk to him like that? But before he could respond, the coach continued, "You know, Lin, I once told you that you had the potential to be a great player. But now, it looks like you're just a shadow of your former self. Maybe it's time to consider retiring."
Lin Feng's face went cold, and he felt a surge of determination coursing through his veins. He knew the coach was trying to get under his skin, but he wasn't going to let him win. With a newfound intensity, he grabbed the ball and began to dribble, his eyes fixed on the hoop.
The crowd erupted as Lin Feng launched himself into a series of dazzling moves, weaving through defenders and leaving them stunned. He could feel the rush of adrenaline coursing through his veins, and his confidence began to return.
But just as he was gearing up to shoot, a defender snuck up behind him and swiped the ball away. Lin Feng watched in horror as the ball rolled away, and he knew the game was slipping through his fingers.
As the buzzer sounded, Lin Feng trudged off the court, his head hung low in defeat. He knew he still had a long way to go, but he also knew that he couldn't give up. Not yet.
As he disappeared into the locker room, Wang Zhen caught up to him. "Hey, Lin, don't give up. We believe in you."
Lin Feng looked up, his eyes burning with determination. "Thanks, Wang Zhen. But I need to figure out what's going on. I can't keep playing like this."
And with that, he disappeared into the darkness, the sound of his own doubts echoing in his mind. What was happening to him? And could he find a way to overcome his struggles and reclaim his place as the king of the court? The answer would have to wait until the next game.
