Xiao Zhan's eyes narrowed as he recognized the knock at the door. It was a familiar rhythm, one that sent a shiver down his spine. He slowly got up from his couch, his hand instinctively reaching for the knife he kept hidden in the drawer.

The knock came again, louder this time.

Xiao Zhan's gaze drifted to the clock on the wall. It was barely 9 am. Who could be visiting at such an ungodly hour?

He took a deep breath, calming his racing heart. It couldn't be good news.

"Who is it?" he called out, his voice firm but measured.

The knock came again, accompanied by a muffled voice. "It's me, Lin Feng. I need to talk to you, Xiao Zhan."

Xiao Zhan's eyes narrowed further. Lin Feng was the CEO of the Lin Group, one of the largest companies in the city. What business could he possibly have with him?

He opened the door, his hand still hovering near the knife. Lin Feng stood before him, his usual composed demeanor replaced by a look of concern.

"Xiao Zhan, I need to ask you something," Lin Feng said, his voice low and urgent.

Xiao Zhan raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"

"I've received a report that you're in deep trouble," Lin Feng said, his eyes scanning the room. "I'm willing to offer you a deal. If you work for me, I'll make sure your troubles disappear."

Xiao Zhan's eyes narrowed even further. This was a trap. Lin Feng was playing him, using his company to manipulate him.

"I'm not interested," Xiao Zhan said, his voice firm but controlled.

Lin Feng's face twisted into a mixture of surprise and frustration. "You're not thinking clearly, Xiao Zhan. You're in over your head, and you need someone like me to help you."

Xiao Zhan snorted. "I don't need anyone's help. I can take care of myself."
