第100章 "Midnight Visitor"

都市之最强狂兵

**Chapter 100: The Unexpected Confrontation**

Xiao Zhan's eyes locked onto the door, his instincts screaming at him to be cautious. He moved stealthily towards the entrance, his hand instinctively reaching for the pistol holstered at his hip.

The knock came again, louder this time, as if whoever was on the other side was growing impatient. Xiao Zhan's gaze narrowed, his mind racing with possibilities. Who could it be, and why were they bothering him at this unearthly hour?

He slowly opened the door, his eyes scanning the darkened corridor before focusing on the figure standing before him. It was a woman, her face illuminated only by the faint moonlight filtering through the balcony. Xiao Zhan's grip on the pistol relaxed marginally as he recognized her – it was Liang Meilin, a former comrade from his Special Forces unit.

"Meilin, what brings you here so late?" Xiao Zhan asked, his tone neutral.

Liang Meilin's eyes darted around the room, as if searching for something or someone. "Xiao Zhan, I need to talk to you about something. It's important."

Xiao Zhan's instincts were screaming at him to be wary, but Meilin's words had piqued his curiosity. He stepped aside, allowing her to enter.

"What's going on, Meilin?" he asked, closing the door behind her.

Meilin's expression was grave. "I received a message from an anonymous source, claiming that someone has been asking questions about your past. Someone who's willing to pay top dollar for information about your...extracurricular activities."

Xiao Zhan's eyes snapped to attention, his mind racing with the implications. Who could be behind this, and what did they want with him? He felt a shiver run down his spine as he realized the gravity of the situation.

"Who is it?" he asked, his voice low and even.

Meilin shook her head. "I don't know, but I think you should be careful. Very careful."

As Meilin finished speaking, a sudden burst of laughter echoed from the streets below. Xiao Zhan's gaze shot towards the balcony, his eyes narrowing as he recognized the unmistakable sound of Zhao Yuan's mocking laughter.

"Looks like we have our answer," he muttered, his grip on the pistol tightening.

Meilin's eyes flickered towards the balcony, her face pale. "Oh no..."

The chapter ends with Xiao Zhan's eyes locked onto the balcony, his mind racing with the implications of Zhao Yuan's presence. What does it mean, and what will Xiao Zhan do about it? The tension is palpable, and the story is reaching a boiling point.
