第78章 "Shattered Trust, Scorned Alliance"

都市之最强狂兵

**Chapter 78: The Confrontation**

Xiao Zhan's outburst sent Shen Yi's calm demeanor cracking, and a hint of aggression crept into his eyes. "You're blaming me for this?" Shen Yi's voice dripped with incredulity. "You're the one who decided to take the mission without consulting anyone, without even informing us about the risks!"

Their voices echoed through the deserted alley, drawing the attention of passersby who quickly scurried away, sensing the tension in the air. Xiao Zhan's anger refused to dissipate, fueled by the memories of their failed infiltration mission and the subsequent betrayal. "You were supposed to be my brother-in-arms, my comrade. You were the one who convinced me to join this mission, to trust you with my life!"

Shen Yi's expression darkened, his eyes flashing with defensiveness. "You're forgetting, Xiao Zhan, that I was just following orders. The mission was authorized, and we were told it was a high-priority objective."

Xiao Zhan's face twisted in a snarl. " Authorized by whom? You're going to tell me the South Zone Special Forces cooked up this mess without consulting anyone?"

Shen Yi's eyes gleamed with a calculating intensity. "I didn't say that. But I did say that the mission was deemed high-priority. And you know as well as I do that sometimes, orders have to be followed without questioning."

Xiao Zhan's anger boiled over, his fists clenched as he took a step closer to Shen Yi. "You're just trying to justify your own actions, aren't you? You're trying to shift the blame onto me, onto our team, onto the entire mission. But I know the truth, Shen Yi. I know you were in deep with the South Zone from the very beginning."

Shen Yi's expression remained impassive, but a flicker of unease played at the edges of his eyes. "Xiao Zhan, stop—"

Xiao Zhan's voice rose, cutting off Shen Yi's words. "No, I won't stop! I won't stop until I know the truth. Until I know why you betrayed us, why you put our lives in danger for the sake of your own gain!"

Their confrontation echoed through the alley, drawing the attention of the surrounding buildings' residents, who peeked out their windows, sensing the intensity of the moment. Xiao Zhan's words hung in the air, heavy with accusation, as Shen Yi's eyes flashed with a mixture of anger and fear.

The stormy night air seemed to vibrate with the tension between them, as if the very fate of their alliance hung in the balance. And in that moment, it seemed impossible to predict what would happen next – would their bond be forged stronger or shattered forever?

As the standoff reached its climax, a faint hum of motorcycles echoed through the alley, growing louder with every passing second. The sound sent a shiver down Xiao Zhan's spine, and he turned to face the impending danger, his instincts screaming warning.

"Shen Yi, it seems we have company," Xiao Zhan growled, his eyes narrowing as the motorcycles came into view. "Looks like our little chat is about to be interrupted."

The darkness seemed to writhe and twist around them, as if the city itself was responding to the turmoil brewing between these two former comrades. And in that moment, it seemed that only one question mattered: who would emerge victorious from this confrontation?
