**Chapter 147: "The Silent Warning"**

I hesitated outside the door, my heart racing like a jackrabbit. I could feel eyes on me, boring into my skin. I took a deep breath, pushed open the door, and stepped inside.

The room was dimly lit, the only sound the soft hum of a computer. I spotted Night Hawk, her eyes fixed on a screen in front of her. I approached her quietly, trying not to startle her.

"Night Hawk," I whispered, my voice low and even. "What have you found?"

She didn't look up, her focus remaining on the screen. "You're early," she said, her voice neutral.

I scanned the room, my eyes adjusting to the darkness. "I had a feeling something was off."

Night Hawk's gaze flicked up to mine, her eyes piercing. "You're getting paranoid, Shadow."

I smiled wryly. "Maybe. But I've got a feeling we're being watched."

She raised an eyebrow. "We're in a secure facility. Who's going to be watching us?"

I shrugged. "I don't know, but I don't like it. Can I take a look at what you've found?"

Night Hawk nodded, her eyes never leaving mine. "It's not good."

I leaned in, my eyes on the screen. A series of emails flashed by, each one more cryptic than the last. I recognized the language, a code I'd seen before.

"Who's sending these?" I asked, my voice low.

Night Hawk's eyes locked onto mine. "It's not who, but what. A mole, embedded deep within our organization."

My gut twisted. "How deep?"

She hesitated, her eyes darting away. "I'm not sure, but I think it's higher up than we are."

I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead. "We need to get to the bottom of this. Now."

Night Hawk nodded, her face set in determination. "Agreed. But we need to be careful. Whoever this mole is, they're good. Really good."

I nodded, my mind racing. "I'll start digging. You keep monitoring the emails. See if you can find any patterns."

Night Hawk nodded, her eyes never leaving mine. "I'm on it."

I turned to leave, but Night Hawk's voice stopped me. "Shadow?"

I turned back, my eyes meeting hers. "Yes?"

"I don't think we're alone in this room," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

I froze, my heart pounding in my chest. And then, I heard it. A faint creak, the sound of someone shifting in their seat.

I spun around, but there was no one there. Or so I thought.

As I turned back to Night Hawk, I saw it. A glimmer of movement out of the corner of my eye. And then, it was gone.

"Someone's here," I whispered, my voice low and deadly.

Night Hawk's eyes locked onto mine, her face set in determination. "Let's get out of here."

But it was too late. The door slammed shut, trapping us inside. And then, the lights went out.

I was plunged into darkness, my heart racing with anticipation. Who was behind this? And what did they want?
