谍影风云

**Chapter 145: "The Web of Lies"**

I pushed the photograph away, trying to focus on my mission. But my eyes kept drifting back to the enigmatic woman's face. Who was she? And what did she have to do with my current assignment?

I took a deep breath and tried to shake off the distraction. I was here to retrieve a classified document from a high-ranking official's office. No time to indulge in idle curiosity.

As I made my way to the official's office, my instincts kicked in. Something didn't feel right. The corridor was eerily quiet, the only sound being the soft hum of air conditioning. Where was everyone?

I reached the office and found it dark, the door slightly ajar. I pushed it open slowly, my gun drawn.

"Hello?" I called out, my voice low and even.

No response.

I stepped inside, my eyes scanning the room. The official's desk was empty, papers scattered all over the surface. The document I was supposed to retrieve was nowhere to be found.

Suddenly, I heard a faint rustling sound coming from the closet. My heart racing, I crept towards it, my gun at the ready.

I flung open the closet door, ready to take down whoever was inside. But instead of an enemy, I found a woman with piercing green eyes staring back at me.

"Who are you?" I demanded, trying to keep my voice steady.

"I'm the one who's been leaving you clues," she replied, her voice husky and confident.

My eyes narrowed. "What do you want?"

"I want the truth," she said, her eyes never leaving mine. "And I think you're the only one who can give it to me."

I raised an eyebrow. "What truth?"

"The truth about your past," she said, her voice dripping with seduction. "And about the woman in the photograph."

My gut twisted. How did she know about that?

"I don't know what you're talking about," I lied, trying to maintain my composure.

The woman smiled, her eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, but I think you do. You see, I've been watching you for a long time, Lin. And I know your secrets."

My heart racing, I pulled out my phone and dialed a number. "Shadow" appeared on the screen.

"Lin, what's happening?" he asked, his voice low and urgent.

"I need backup," I replied. "Now."

The woman's smile grew wider. "I think you'll find that you're on your own, Lin. Because I'm not who you think I am."

And with that, she vanished into thin air, leaving me staring at an empty closet.

I spun around, trying to make sense of what was happening. Who was this woman? And what did she want from me?

As I turned back to the closet, I realized that the document was no longer on the desk. It was as if it had never existed.

I felt a chill run down my spine. This was no ordinary mission. And I had a feeling that my entire world was about to implode.

To be continued...
