第47章 "Shadows Within"

诸天万界之旅

**Chapter 47: The Web of Deceit**

Lin Yuan's eyes still blazed with determination as he stared at the ancient scroll. He had spent the entire night pouring over the prophecy, trying to decipher its true meaning. The words danced before his eyes, but the answer remained elusive.

Just as he was about to give up, a soft knock at the door interrupted his thoughts. He cursed under his breath, wondering who could be bothering him at this ungodly hour.

"Enter," he called out, still trying to focus his mind.

The door creaked open, and in walked his trusted friend and companion, Chen Wei. Lin Yuan raised an eyebrow, surprised by the sudden visit.

"What's going on, Wei?" he asked gruffly.

Chen Wei hesitated, his eyes darting around the room before settling on the ancient scroll. "I saw the light under the door, Lin. I thought something was wrong."

Lin Yuan chuckled wryly. "Just the usual midnight olympics. I was trying to decipher this stupid prophecy."

Chen Wei's expression turned serious. "I think I might have some news that can help you with that."

Lin Yuan's skepticism was palpable. "What could you possibly know that I don't?"

Chen Wei pulled out a small notebook from his pocket. "I overheard some whispers in the cafeteria yesterday. Seemingly innocent chatter, but I think it might be more than that. One of the seniors, Liang Wei, mentioned something about the prophecy being... incomplete."

Lin Yuan's eyes widened as he seized the notebook from Chen Wei's hand. "What do you mean?"

"Well, according to Liang Wei, the prophecy is just a fragment of a larger whole. He claimed that there's another scroll, hidden deep within the academy's archives, that holds the key to unlocking the prophecy's true meaning."

Lin Yuan's mind was racing. If what Chen Wei said was true, it could change everything. "We need to find that scroll," he whispered, his determination renewed.

Chen Wei nodded. "I've already started snooping around. But we need to be careful. If Liang Wei is involved, it's likely that others are too."

As they parted ways, Lin Yuan's thoughts were consumed by the revelation. He couldn't shake the feeling that they were walking into a trap, but he was willing to take the risk. The prophecy was too important, and he was too close to uncovering its secrets.

As he lay in bed, the ancient scroll still clutched in his hand, he heard a faint whisper in his ear. "You're playing with fire, Lin Yuan. But you're not the only one."

The words sent a shiver down his spine, and he knew that his journey was far from over. The battle within was far from won, and the stakes had just gotten a whole lot higher.
