第44章 "Beyond the Veil of Shadows"

诸天万界之旅

**Chapter 44: The Shadow Within**

Lin Yuan's eyes narrowed as he gazed at the ancient scroll, his mind still reeling from the secrets he had uncovered. The prophecy had spoken of a great imbalance in the universe, one that threatened to destroy the fabric of reality. He knew he had to act, but he also knew he was no match for the forces he would be facing.

Just as he was about to put the scroll away, a sudden commotion broke out outside his chamber. Lin Yuan's senses went on high alert as he rushed to investigate. The whispers had returned, and this time they were louder, more menacing.

"What's going on?" he demanded, striding into the hallway.

"Someone's been...taken," his friend and fellow adventurer, Xiao Wei, replied, her voice trembling. "I saw it happen. They just vanished into thin air!"

Lin Yuan's grip on his sword tightened. "Tell me more."

"It happened in the gardens," Xiao Wei said, her eyes wide with fear. "I was walking by and saw someone...someone familiar...being dragged away by dark shadows. I tried to follow, but they vanished before I could get close."

Lin Yuan's mind raced. He knew who Xiao Wei was talking about – it was his friend, Lin Qi. Lin Qi was a skilled warrior, but he was no match for the dark forces that lurked in the shadows.

"I'll find him," Lin Yuan vowed, his determination burning like a flame. "We can't let them keep taking our friends, not without a fight."

Xiao Wei nodded, a fierce glint in her eye. "I'm with you, Lin Yuan. We'll get to the bottom of this."

Together, they set off towards the gardens, ready to face whatever dangers lay ahead. But as they approached the scene of the crime, Lin Yuan felt a strange sensation – a presence he couldn't quite explain.

"Xiao Wei, do you feel that?" he asked, his voice low and urgent.

Xiao Wei nodded, her eyes scanning the surroundings. "What is it?"

"I don't know," Lin Yuan admitted, his grip on his sword tightening. "But I have a feeling we're not alone. We're being watched."

As if on cue, the whispers grew louder, more menacing. Lin Yuan's heart pounded in his chest. He knew they had to be careful – they were walking into the very mouth of darkness itself.

"We'll need to be stealthy," Xiao Wei whispered, her voice barely audible over the din of the whispers. "We can't let them know we're here."

Lin Yuan nodded, his eyes scanning the surroundings. He knew they had to move quickly, before it was too late.

"What do we do when we find Lin Qi?" Xiao Wei asked, her voice trembling with fear.

Lin Yuan's jaw clenched. "We fight. We'll fight with every ounce of strength we have. And we won't rest until we've saved him."

As they crept further into the gardens, Lin Yuan felt a strange sensation – a sensation that told him they were getting close. He could sense the dark energy, the malevolent force that lurked in the shadows.

And then, he saw it. A dark figure, tall and imposing, looming over a figure on the ground. Lin Qi, his friend, was struggling to free himself, but it was no use. The figure was too strong.

Lin Yuan's heart raced. He knew he had to act fast, before it was too late.

But as he charged forward, everything went black.
