**Chapter 29: The Guardian of the City**
Lin Yuan's eyes sparkled with anticipation as he examined the map, his fingers tracing the intricate lines and symbols. According to the ancient texts, the Lost City was said to be hidden deep within the Heart of the Ancient, where the air was thick with the whispers of the past. He couldn't wait to uncover its secrets.
As he made his way through the winding tunnels, the air grew thick with an otherworldly energy. Lin Yuan's senses tingled, his heart pounding in his chest. Suddenly, the walls began to glow with a soft, ethereal light.
"Whoa, this is crazy!" he breathed, his eyes wide with wonder.
A figure materialized before him, tall and imposing, with skin as dark as the night sky and eyes that shone like stars. Lin Yuan felt a jolt of electricity run through his veins as the guardian's gaze locked onto his.
"You shouldn't be here," the guardian growled, its voice like a landslide.
Lin Yuan held up his hands, palms outward. "I'm just a curious traveler. I mean no harm."
The guardian raised an eyebrow. "You're not from around here, are you?"
Lin Yuan hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "Let's just say I'm from... elsewhere. I've heard rumors of a Lost City hidden within the Heart of the Ancient. Is this the place?"
The guardian's expression turned stern. "You're referring to the City of the Ancients. It's hidden behind a veil of time and space. You shouldn't be able to find it."
Lin Yuan's eyes narrowed. "You're not going to stop me, are you?"
The guardian snorted. "I'm going to stop you, all right. You're not worthy to set foot in the City of the Ancients."
Lin Yuan's jaw clenched. "I think you're underestimating me. I've come too far to turn back now."
The guardian smiled, cold and unforgiving. "We'll see about that."
With a flick of its wrist, the guardian summoned a swirling vortex of energy, enveloping Lin Yuan. The air around him grew thick and heavy, and he felt his consciousness slipping away...
