**The 91st Chapter: The Web of Deceit**
Nova's eyes never left Lemuel's as she weighed her options. She knew she couldn't trust him, but she also knew she needed to play along if she wanted to get out of this situation alive. "Tell me, Lemuel," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "what's the real reason you brought me here?"
Lemuel's smile grew wider, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Ah, Nova, you're so perceptive. Yes, there is more to this than just a simple contract negotiation. You see, I have... associates who are interested in your unique skills."
Nova's grip on her gun tightened, her mind racing with possibilities. She knew she had to keep Lemuel talking, to learn more about his plan before she made her move. "And who might these associates be?" she asked, her tone casual.
Lemuel chuckled, his eyes never leaving hers. "Ah, that would be telling. But let's just say they're a group of... entrepreneurs who are willing to pay top credits for your services."
Nova's instincts screamed at her to get out of there, but she knew she had to play along. She nodded, her mind working overtime to come up with a plan. "And what do you get out of this, Lemuel? What's in it for you?"
Lemuel's smile faltered for a moment, and Nova's heart skipped a beat. She knew she'd struck a nerve. "Let's just say I have... motivations that align with those of my associates," he said, his voice dripping with menace.
Nova's grip on her gun tightened further, her mind racing with possibilities. She knew she had to get out of there, and fast. She glanced around the room, her eyes searching for an escape route. And then, she saw it – a small window high up on the wall, partially hidden by the curtains.
Without hesitation, Nova made her move. She sprang up from her seat, her gun drawn, and sprinted towards the window. Lemuel's eyes widened in shock as she leapt through the opening, her heart pounding in her chest.
She landed on the fire escape outside, her gun trained on the window as she waited for Lemuel to follow. She knew she had to get out of there, and fast, before he could call for backup. And as she turned to make her way down the fire escape, she heard Lemuel's voice echoing behind her.
"You'll never get away from me, Nova," he shouted. "You'll pay for betraying me!"
Nova's heart skipped a beat as she glanced back up at the window. And then, she saw it – a figure lurking in the shadows, a figure that made her blood run cold.
"Who's that?" she whispered to herself, her gun trembling in her hand.
And then, everything went black.
To be continued...
