Nova's desperation grew with each passing second. She knew she couldn't stay in the briefing room forever, but she also knew she couldn't face Lemuel's wrath alone. Her mind raced, trying to come up with a plan, but her thoughts were consumed by the weight of her lies.

Just as she thought she'd reached the end of her rope, the comms device on the table beeped, shattering the tense silence. Nova's heart skipped a beat as she hesitated, wondering if she should answer it. But her curiosity got the better of her, and she picked up the device.

"Nova, it's Riven. I've got some information that might interest you." His voice was laced with a hint of mischief, and Nova's instincts told her to be cautious.

"What is it, Riven?" she asked warily, trying to keep her tone even.

"I've managed to tap into Lemuel's secure comms channel. I think I can hack into his files and retrieve the evidence you need to clear your name." Riven's words were like a lifeline, and Nova's hope was rekindled.

But before she could respond, Lemuel's voice cut in, cold and menacing. "Nova, don't even think about it. Riven, you're not authorized to access that channel. Hand over the device, now."

Nova's heart sank as she realized Lemuel had anticipated her move. She condemned herself for her foolishness, knowing she had no choice but to surrender.

"Nova, trust me," Riven whispered urgently. "I can get us out of this. Just follow my lead."

Nova hesitated, torn between her loyalty to Riven and her fear of Lemuel's wrath. But the desperation in her eyes told her there was no other option.

"Okay, Riven. I trust you. Do it."

As she spoke, the briefing room door slid open, and Lemuel strode in, his eyes blazing with anger.

"You should have stayed silent, Nova. Now it's too late." He reached for his gun, and Nova knew she was running out of time.

The comms device slipped from her fingers, and the room went dark, as if the very stars had been extinguished. Nova's world was about to come crashing down around her.
