**The 78th Chapter: The Burning Bridge**

Lemuel's gaze pierced Nova like a dagger, his anger and hurt coursing through his veins like liquid fire. "You're telling me that the Shadow Syndicate manipulated us from the very beginning?" he growled, his voice low and menacing.

Nova's eyes flickered, her pallor ashen. "I...I didn't know, Lemuel. I swear it. I was just a pawn in their game."

Lemuel's jaw clenched, his fists trembling with rage. "A pawn? You're more than just a pawn, Nova. You're a traitor. You're the one who led them to us, who got our friends killed."

Nova flinched, tears welling up in her eyes. "Please, Lemuel, don't say that. I didn't mean for anyone to get hurt."

Lemuel's anger boiled over, and he slammed his fist onto the table, making Nova jump. "You're not crying for the innocent lives lost, Nova. You're crying because you're afraid of being exposed. You're afraid of facing the consequences of your betrayal."

The air was thick with tension as the two former allies glared at each other, the weight of their hatred and distrust palpable. Lemuel's companions, freezing at the sound of his outburst, watched the scene unfold with bated breath.

Just as it seemed like the confrontation was about to escalate further, a sudden commotion erupted outside the room. The sound of blaster fire and screams echoed through the corridors, followed by the pounding of boots as more guards rushed to join the fight.

Lemuel's gaze never wavered from Nova's, his mind racing with the implications. "It seems the Shadow Syndicate has arrived to collect their debt," he said, his voice cold and calculated.

Nova's eyes widened, her expression horrified. "What do you mean?"

Lemuel's smile was a thin, cruel thing. "Meaning, Nova, that you've led them straight to our doorstep. And now, we have to pay the price for your treachery."

As the fight raged on outside, Lemuel's companions moved to flank their leader, their eyes scanning the room for any sign of danger. Nova, frozen in terror, seemed to shrink into herself, her eyes pleading for forgiveness. But Lemuel's anger had long since consumed him, leaving only one possibility: total destruction.

The fate of their mission, their lives, and the entire galaxy hung in the balance as the Burning Bridge of betrayal and retribution loomed before them, its flames licking at the edges of their very souls.

And as the chapter closed, Lemuel's last thought echoed through the darkness: "The Shadow Syndicate may have underestimated us, but they've just awakened a force that will bring them to their knees..."
