第76章 "Deceit's Deadly Web"

星际猎人

**The 76th Chapter: The Web of Lies**

Lemuel's eyes never left Nova's face, his anger still smoldering like a fire waiting to ignite. "You're telling me that the Shadow Syndicate used us to further their own agenda?" His voice was laced with venom, every word a dagger aimed at Nova's heart.

Nova's expression remained calm, a calculating glint in her eyes. "I'm telling you the truth, Lemuel. The Syndicate saw potential in you and your team. They used you to gather intelligence and disrupt the balance of power in the galaxy."

Lemuel's grip on his chair tightened, his knuckles white with tension. "And what about our missions? The ones we were sent to complete? Were those just a ruse as well?"

Nova's nod was almost imperceptible. "Yes. The Syndicate used you to eliminate their competition, to create a power vacuum that they could exploit. You were mere pawns in their game."

Lemuel's anger finally boiled over, and he slammed his fist onto the table, making Nova jump. "You're saying we were used like dogs to do their dirty work? And you're just okay with that?"

Nova's calm façade began to crack, a hint of desperation creeping into her voice. "Lemuel, please. You have to understand—"

"No," Lemuel's voice cut her off, his eyes blazing with fury. "I don't understand. I don't understand how anyone could stoop so low. You're supposed to be my friend, Nova. My ally."

Nova's eyes dropped, her shoulders slumping in defeat. "I know, Lemuel. And I'm sorry. I was blinded by the Syndicate's power and prestige. I didn't realize what they were really after until it was too late."

Lemuel's anger began to give way to sadness, his mind reeling from the revelation. He had trusted Nova, had thought of her as a friend. And now, it seemed, she had been playing him all along.

As the two of them sat in silence, the tension between them palpable, a sudden commotion erupted outside the room. The sound of blaster fire and shouting echoed through the corridors, followed by the heavy footsteps of heavily armed guards.

Lemuel's head jerked towards the door, his instincts on high alert. "What's going on?"

Nova's eyes snapped back to his, a look of warning in their depths. "I don't know, Lemuel. But I think it's time we got out of here."

Lemuel's grip on his chair tightened once more, his mind racing with the implications of the commotion. The Syndicate, it seemed, was not done with them yet. And as they watched the door, they knew that their journey was far from over.
