Nova's stare was like a punch to Lemuel's gut, leaving him breathless and reeling. "You're telling me that the Shadow Syndicate, the very organization we're supposed to be working with, is behind the Breach?" she repeated, her voice laced with venom.

Lemuel's expression faltered, his eyes darting back and forth like a trapped animal. "I...I don't know what to say, Nova. I thought I was doing the right thing, uncovering the truth—"

Nova's laughter cut him off, a cold, mirthless sound. "You thought? You thought? You're just a pawn in their game, Lemuel. And I'm starting to think I am too."

Lemuel's face paled, his eyes welling up with tears. "Nova, please—"

"Shut up, Lemuel," Nova snapped, her hand clamping down on his arm like a vice. "You're a traitor, and I'm done with you. We're done with the Shadow Syndicate."

As if summoned by Nova's words, a commotion erupted outside the cramped, dimly lit room. Boots clattered against the floor, and the sound of blaster fire echoed through the corridor.

Lemuel's eyes went wide. "What's happening?" he whispered, his voice trembling.

Nova's grip on his arm tightened. "It seems the Shadow Syndicate has decided to take matters into their own hands. Looks like we're in for a fight, Lemuel. You're on your own."

With that, Nova yanked Lemuel to his feet and propelled him toward the door. They burst out into the corridor, finding themselves face-to-face with a group of heavily armed mercenaries.

"Nova, stop!" Lemuel screamed, but it was too late. Nova had already drawn her blaster, taking down the first merc with a precise shot.

The corridor erupted into chaos as the two groups clashed. Lemuel watched in horror as Nova took down merc after merc, her movements swift and deadly. But with each passing second, Lemuel knew he was running out of time. He had to get out of there, and fast.

With a desperate glance around, Lemuel spotted a ventilation shaft on the ceiling. Without hesitation, he leapt up and pulled himself into the narrow passage, his heart pounding in his chest.

As he disappeared into the ductwork, Lemuel heard Nova's voice echoing down the corridor, her words dripping with venom. "You're not going anywhere, Lemuel. Not until I'm done with you."

And with that, the darkness swallowed him whole, leaving Lemuel to wonder if he would ever see the light of day again...
