第68章 "Deceitful Tides"

**The 68th Chapter: The Hidden Agenda**

Nova's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with the implications of Lemuel's words. She felt like she was drowning in a sea of deceit, with no lifeline in sight. "You're saying that the Syndicate is involved in the assassination attempt on Celeste?" she asked, her voice low and deadly.

Lemuel nodded, his expression somber. "I'm afraid so, Nova. They've been secretly funding the Shadow Syndicate for years, using their resources to further their own agenda."

Nova's grip on her comms device tightened, her anger and hurt boiling over. "Why?" she demanded, her voice venomous. "Why would they do something so reckless?"

Lemuel shrugged. "Power. Control. They want to dominate the galaxy, and they're willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal."

Nova's eyes flashed with fury. "And what about the rest of us? The innocent people who are getting caught in the crossfire?"

Lemuel's expression turned cold. "That's just collateral damage, Nova. The Syndicate doesn't care about the little people. They're just pawns in their game of galactic domination."

Nova's anger reached a boiling point, and she launched herself at Lemuel, fists flying. But he was ready for her, and he easily deflected her blows. "Nova, stop!" he yelled, holding her back. "You're going to get yourself killed!"

Nova struggled against his grip, her vision blurred with rage. But slowly, her anger began to subside, replaced by a cold, hard determination. "I'll show them," she hissed, her eyes flashing with a fierce intensity. "I'll show them all what it means to cross me."

Lemuel's eyes narrowed, a hint of concern creeping into his expression. "Nova, listen to me," he said, his voice low and urgent. "We need to get out of here, now. The Syndicate will be looking for us, and we can't let them catch up to us."

Nova's gaze faltered, her mind racing with the implications of Lemuel's words. She knew that he was right, but she also knew that she couldn't just abandon her quest for justice. Not now, not when she was so close to uncovering the truth.

As she hesitated, a sudden burst of static filled the air, followed by a cold, menacing voice. "Lemuel, we've been waiting for you. It's time to come home."

Nova's heart skipped a beat as she recognized the voice. It was Lyra, the leader of the Shadow Syndicate. And she had come to collect Lemuel.

With a snarl, Nova yanked free from Lemuel's grip and charged towards Lyra, her fists flying. But Lyra was ready for her, and she effortlessly dispatched Nova with a swift kick.

As Nova crashed to the ground, Lyra crouched beside her, her eyes glinting with cold calculation. "You're a fool, Nova," she hissed. "You think you can take on the Syndicate and win? You're just a pawn in their game, and you're about to become a permanent player in their game of galactic domination."

And with that, Lyra stood up, her eyes glinting with triumph as she disappeared into the shadows, leaving Nova lying helpless on the ground, her fate hanging precariously in the balance.
