第53章 "Truth Behind the Lie"

星际猎人

**The 53rd Chapter: The Confrontation**

Nova's eyes never left Lemuel's face, his grip on the other man's arm tightening as he sensed the slightest hint of deception. "You're hiding something, Lemuel. I can see it in your eyes. What is it?"

Lemuel's expression remained calm, but his eyes darted nervously around the dimly lit corridor. "Nova, I'm telling you the truth. I don't know what you're talking about."

Nova's skepticism was palpable. "Don't lie to me, Lemuel. I've known you long enough to recognize the signs of guilt. You're hiding something, and I aim to find out what it is."

Just as it seemed like Nova was about to unleash his anger, the sound of footsteps echoed down the corridor, growing louder with each passing second. Lemuel's eyes flickered towards the noise, a mixture of relief and concern etched on his face.

"Ah, perfect timing," Nova muttered, his grip on Lemuel's arm relaxing slightly. "It seems we have an unexpected visitor."

The footsteps came to a stop in front of them, and a figure emerged from the shadows. It was Ryder, the infamous smuggler, his worn leather jacket and rough features a testament to his reputation.

"Ryder," Nova said, his tone neutral. "What brings you to this neck of the woods?"

Ryder's eyes scanned the corridor, lingering on Lemuel before fixing on Nova. "I'm looking for a job. I heard rumors of a lucrative opportunity involving a cargo shipment. Thought I'd come to the right people."

Lemuel's eyes lit up with interest, while Nova's expression turned skeptical. "What kind of job?" Nova asked, his tone laced with warning.

Ryder shrugged. "Just a simple cargo run. Nothing too out of the ordinary. I heard the pay is top-notch, though."

Nova's gaze narrowed. "I think we're done here, Lemuel. Ryder, I think you'd best be on your way. We're not looking for any more 'opportunities' at the moment."

Ryder's face fell, but he didn't back down. "You're not going to give me a shot, huh? Fine. I'll find someone else who's willing to take a chance."

As Ryder turned to leave, Lemuel's eyes locked onto Nova's, a hint of urgency in his gaze. "Nova, I think we should talk about this," he said, his voice low and serious.

Nova's expression turned cold. "I think we've said all we need to say, Lemuel. For now, let's just focus on the task at hand."

The tension in the air was palpable as Nova and Lemuel stood there, the unspoken words hanging like a challenge between them. And as Ryder disappeared into the shadows, Nova's eyes seemed to bore into Lemuel's very soul, leaving him wondering what secrets lay hidden beneath the surface.

But what secrets was Nova hiding? And what did Ryder's sudden appearance have to do with the mysterious cargo shipment? The answers would have to wait, as Nova and Lemuel stood there, locked in a silent standoff, the fate of the galaxy hanging precariously in the balance. To be continued...
