网游之天下无双

**98. The Web of Deceit Unravels Further**

Old Ghost's eyes seemed to plead for mercy, but Lin Chao's gaze remained unyielding. "Tell me, what are you hiding?" he repeated, his voice a low growl.

Old Ghost's eyes flickered, and for a moment, Lin Chao thought he saw a glimmer of fear. But then, the old man's expression hardened, and he sneered. "You're not even worthy of knowing," he spat.

Lin Chao's face twisted in anger, but he kept his cool. "I've seen enough of your tricks, Old Ghost. I know you're hiding something. And I'm going to find out what it is."

Old Ghost snorted. "You think you're so clever, don't you? But you're just a foolish kid playing at espionage."

Lin Chao's eyes narrowed. "I've played with the big boys, Old Ghost. And I've won. You're just a relic of the past, clinging to your old tricks and lies."

The air was electric with tension as the two men glared at each other. Lin Chao could feel the weight of Old Ghost's gaze, like a physical force pushing against him. But he refused to back down.

Suddenly, the room was filled with the sound of footsteps. Lin Chao's heart skipped a beat as he turned to see a group of guards storming in, their faces twisted in cruelty.

Old Ghost's eyes lit up with a malevolent glow. "Ah, it seems you've attracted some unwanted attention, Lin Chao," he said, his voice dripping with malice.

Lin Chao's eyes darted back to Old Ghost, a cold realization dawning on him. He was trapped. And Old Ghost was the one holding the strings.

"You're behind this, aren't you?" Lin Chao accused, his voice low and deadly.

Old Ghost's smile twisted his face into a grotesque mask. "Who, me? Oh no, I'm just a simple old man trying to live out my days in peace."

Lin Chao's eyes blazed with fury. He knew that Old Ghost was behind the guards, and he knew that he had to get out of there, fast. But as he turned to make a run for it, he felt a hand clamp down on his shoulder, holding him back.

"Ah-ah, Lin Chao, I think you're forgetting something," Old Ghost said, his voice dripping with venom.

Lin Chao's eyes locked onto the old man's, his mind racing with options. He knew he couldn't take on the guards alone, but he also knew he couldn't let Old Ghost get the upper hand.

As the guards closed in, Lin Chao's heart pounded in his chest. He was trapped, and he knew that his only hope was to think fast and come up with a plan to escape.

But as he looked into Old Ghost's eyes, he saw something there that made his blood run cold. It was a glimmer of recognition, a hint that Old Ghost knew something about him that Lin Chao had never told anyone...

And that thought left him with more questions than answers.

To be continued...
