网游之天下无双

**92. Web of Deceit: The Web Unravels (Continued)**

Old Ghost's eyes landed on Lin Chao's clenched fist, his face pale with a mix of fear and resignation. "L-Lin Chao, please calm down," he stammered, his voice trembling.

Lin Chao's grip on the table tightened, his anger boiling over. "You're hiding something from me, Old Ghost! I can see it in your eyes. What is it? What are you trying to hide?"

Old Ghost hesitated, his eyes darting back and forth like a trapped animal. Lin Chao's intense gaze seemed to pierce through his defenses, and for a moment, he thought he saw a glimmer of truth in the old man's eyes.

But before he could reveal anything, the door burst open and a group of guards rushed in, their faces stern and unfriendly. "Old Ghost, we've received a report of a disturbance. What's going on here?"

Old Ghost's expression changed in an instant, his eyes flashing with a cold, calculating intensity. "Ah, nothing, nothing at all. Just a...ah, a misunderstanding. Lin Chao was just leaving, weren't you, boy?"

Lin Chao's anger cooled slightly as he stared at the guards, his mind racing. What was going on? Why had the guards arrived at this moment? And what was Old Ghost hiding?

The guards seemed to sense the tension in the air, their eyes flicking between Lin Chao and Old Ghost. "Very well, let's take a look around," one of them said, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword.

As the guards began to search the room, Old Ghost's eyes locked onto Lin Chao's, a warning flickering in their depths. Lin Chao's instincts screamed at him to get out of there, but his feet seemed rooted to the spot.

"What's going on here?" he demanded, his voice firm and commanding.

Old Ghost's expression turned cold, his voice dripping with malice. "You'll find out soon enough, Lin Chao. But for now, let's just say that some secrets are meant to remain hidden. And some truths are better left unspoken."

The guards closed in, their eyes fixed on Lin Chao like hawks. Old Ghost's words hung in the air, a dark and foreboding shadow that seemed to loom over Lin Chao like a specter.

And then, everything went dark.
