**126. The Mask of Deceit**
The silence was suffocating, and Lin Chao could feel the weight of the secrets that hung in the air. Old Ghost's mask remained steady, but Lin Chao's eyes bore into his, searching for any sign of deception. The air was thick with tension, and the only sound was the soft hum of the game's engine.
"I think it's time we got to the truth, don't you?" Lin Chao said, his voice low and menacing.
Old Ghost's mask flickered, and for a moment, Lin Chao thought he saw a flash of fear in his eyes. But then, the mask was steady once more, and Old Ghost spoke in a voice that was barely above a whisper.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Lin Chao."
Lin Chao's eyes narrowed. "Don't play dumb, Old Ghost. I know you're hiding something. And I know you're not the only one."
Old Ghost's mask seemed to slip, ever so slightly, and Lin Chao's eyes locked onto it, sensing a glimmer of truth. "Tell me, Old Ghost. What secrets are you hiding? What lies are you telling?"
Old Ghost's eyes flashed with anger, and for a moment, Lin Chao thought he was going to lash out. But then, his mask seemed to click back into place, and he spoke in a voice that was cold and detached.
"You're just a foolish kid, Lin Chao. You think you're so smart, don't you? But you're just a pawn in a game you don't even understand."
Lin Chao's eyes burned with fury. "I understand enough, Old Ghost. And I know that you're not the only one who's hiding something. You're not even the most important one."
Old Ghost's mask seemed to quiver with rage, and Lin Chao could feel the air charged with electricity. The game's engine hummed louder, and Lin Chao knew that something was about to happen.
And then, without warning, the screen went dark.
Lin Chao's eyes snapped back to the game, and he saw that he was back in the safe zone, surrounded by the familiar sights and sounds of the game. But something was off. The air felt charged with an otherworldly energy, and Lin Chao could sense that something was about to change.
He looked around, trying to process what was happening. And then, he saw it. A message, glowing on the screen in red letters.
"THE REALITY IS ABOUT TO SHAPE UP..."
Lin Chao's heart raced as he read the words. What did they mean? And what was about to happen?
He looked around, trying to find some answer. But there was none. The game was silent, the only sound the soft hum of the engine.
And then, without warning, the screen went black.
