第84章 "Shadows Betrayed"
天龙傲世
**Chapter 84: The Web of Deceit Unravels Further**
The heavy silence that had fallen between them was finally broken by Lin Wan'er's cold laughter. "You're surprised, aren't you, Xie Yuan?" she taunted, her eyes glinting with amusement. "You thought you were the only one who knew the truth?"
Xie Yuan's jaw clenched, his eyes flashing with anger. "What truth?" he growled, his voice low and menacing.
Lin Wan'er's smile grew wider. "The truth about your little secret, of course." Her gaze drifted to the small, intricately carved box on the table between them. "I know what's inside that box, Xie Yuan. And I know why you're so desperate to keep it hidden."
The air was electric with tension as Xie Yuan's eyes darted to the box, his mind racing to anticipate Lin Wan'er's next move. He knew she had to be bluffing, but a part of him couldn't shake the feeling that she was telling the truth.
"What are you talking about?" he demanded, his voice firm despite the doubts that crept into his mind.
Lin Wan'er's laughter was like ice water. "Don't play dumb, Xie Yuan. I know about the Blood Oath. And I know what it means for you to possess it."
Xie Yuan's eyes snapped back to hers, his heart racing with a mix of fear and anger. How did she know about the Blood Oath? And what did she mean by "possess it"? He felt like he was trapped in a spider's web, with Lin Wan'er spinning the threads tighter and tighter around him.
"Foolishness!" Xie Yuan spat, his voice dripping with disdain. "You're just trying to manipulate me, Lin Wan'er. But I won't fall for it."
Lin Wan'er's smile never wavered. "Oh, but you will. You see, I have...Insurance." She pulled out a small, folded piece of paper from her sleeve and handed it to Xie Yuan. "Read this, and you'll understand why I'm not bluffing."
Xie Yuan's eyes scanned the paper, his heart sinking as he read the words penned in a familiar handwriting. It was a letter, written by his former mentor, the legendary swordsman, Qiu Tao. And it contained a shocking revelation that would change everything.
As Xie Yuan's eyes returned to Lin Wan'er's, he felt the world around him crumbling. His grip on the box tightened, as if he could sense the weight of his secrets bearing down on him.
And then, everything went dark.
