第72章 "Shadows Within"

天龙傲世

**Chapter 72: The Web of Deceit Tangles**

Xie Yuan's eyes snapped towards Lin Wan'er, his patience worn thin. "Answer me, Lin Wan'er. Who is behind this manipulation?" The words were laced with a hint of anger, but beneath the surface, a spark of intrigue burned.

Lin Wan'er's gaze didn't waver, her expression calm and collected. "I'm not sure, Xie Yuan. But I do know it's someone close to us. Someone who has been hiding in plain sight."

The air was heavy with tension as Xie Yuan's mind raced with the possibilities. He thought back to the events leading up to the current situation, trying to pinpoint the moment things began to unravel. It was like trying to grasp a handful of sand - the more he squeezed, the more it slipped through his fingers.

"Who could it be?" he muttered to himself, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for the culprit.

Lin Wan'er's voice broke the silence. "Xie Yuan, I've been thinking. Maybe it's someone who has a personal stake in our success."

Xie Yuan's eyes snapped back to hers. "What do you mean?"

Lin Wan'er's expression turned thoughtful. "Think about it. Whoever is behind this has been orchestrating events to keep us in the dark. But why? What do they gain from it?"

The room fell silent once more as Xie Yuan's mind whirled with the implications. He thought of his allies, his friends, and his enemies. Who could be hiding behind the scenes, pulling the strings?

Just as Xie Yuan was about to respond, the door burst open, and a commotion erupted outside. The sound of clashing steel and the scent of smoke wafted in, followed by a figure stumbling into the room.

It was Shen Xiao, his face pale and his eyes wide with fear. "Xie Yuan! It's happened! The Red Phoenix Clan has attacked the city!"

Xie Yuan's face darkened, his eyes flashing with anger. "What's going on, Shen Xiao?"

But before Shen Xiao could respond, the room was filled with the sound of shattering glass and the creaking of wooden beams. The walls began to shake, and the ceiling trembled ominously.

"Earthquake!" someone yelled, but Xie Yuan's attention was focused on the figure standing in the doorway. A figure he never thought he'd see again.

"Guo Feng?" he growled, his voice low and menacing.

Guo Feng's smile was like a crack in the earth. "It seems the time for secrets is over, Xie Yuan. The web of deceit has finally been unraveled..."

As the room continued to shake, Xie Yuan's eyes locked onto Guo Feng's, the air thick with tension and the promise of impending chaos.

And in that moment, Xie Yuan knew that the true battle had only just begun.
