第37章 "Deceit in the Shadows"

天龙傲世

**Chapter 37: The Betrayal**

The confrontation between Lin Wan'er and Xie Yuan had been brewing for what seemed like an eternity. The silence between them was suffocating, and Lin Wan'er's anger had reached a fever pitch.

"You're a liar, Xie Yuan," she spat, her eyes blazing with fury. "You promised me we would work together, but it seems you're more interested in using me to further your own interests."

Xie Yuan's expression remained impassive, his eyes glinting with a hint of amusement. "I'm doing what's best for the clan, Lin Wan'er," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "You're just pawns in a game you don't even understand."

Lin Wan'er's face turned red with rage. "How dare you!" she hissed, her hand instinctively reaching for the dagger at her waist.

But before she could strike, a loud crash echoed through the room, followed by the sound of shattering glass. The door to the study had burst open, and a group of heavily armed guards had entered, their eyes fixed on Lin Wan'er.

"Seize her!" Xie Yuan barked, his eyes gleaming with triumph. "She's been a thorn in our side for too long."

Lin Wan'er's eyes widened in shock as the guards closed in on her. "What's going on?" she demanded, her voice trembling with rage.

Xie Yuan's smile grew wider. "You see, Lin Wan'er, I've come to realize that your skills would be better utilized elsewhere. And I've already found a buyer for your...services."

The guards dragged Lin Wan'er away, leaving Xie Yuan alone in the study. But the satisfaction he felt was short-lived, as a figure emerged from the shadows, a figure he had thought long dead.

"Xie Yuan," the figure said, its voice low and menacing. "You've been lying to me for far too long. And now, you'll pay the price."

Xie Yuan's eyes locked onto the figure, his heart racing with fear. "Who are you?" he demanded, trying to keep his voice steady.

The figure smiled, its eyes glinting with cold calculation. "You'll find out soon enough. But for now, let's just say that I'm someone who's been waiting a long time for this moment."

As the figure advanced, Xie Yuan knew that his time was running out. He had to think fast, or risk losing everything he had worked for.

And so, he did the only thing he could think of - he reached for the dagger at his waist, and prepared to fight for his life.

To be continued...
