天龙傲世
**Chapter 125: The Betrayal**
Xie Yuan's words had struck a chord within Lin Wan'er, and her eyes slowly lifted to meet his gaze. The air was thick with tension as the silence between them stretched out like a fragile thread. Suddenly, a loud commotion erupted outside the inn, shattering the uneasy quiet.
"What's going on?" Lin Wan'er's voice was barely above a whisper, but Xie Yuan's ears picked up every nuance.
"Sounds like trouble," he replied, his eyes never leaving hers.
Before he could move, a group of rough-looking men burst into the inn, their faces twisted with malice. They were the infamous Five Fists Gang, notorious for their brutality and disregard for the law.
"You're the one who's been stirring up trouble in our turf, aren't you?" one of the gang members sneered, his eyes locked onto Xie Yuan.
Xie Yuan's expression remained calm, but Lin Wan'er's eyes flashed with worry. "What do you want?"
The gang member sneered. "You're going to pay for your foolishness. You think you can just waltz into our territory and start causing trouble? You're going to regret the day you were born."
Without warning, the gang member drew his sword and charged at Xie Yuan. The patrons of the inn scrambled to get out of the way, but Lin Wan'er stood frozen, her eyes fixed on the unfolding scene.
Xie Yuan sidestepped the attack with ease, his eyes never leaving the gang member's. "You're making a grave mistake," he drawled.
The gang member snarled, and the two began to exchange blows. Lin Wan'er's heart raced as she watched the scene unfold. She had never seen Xie Yuan fight before, but the skill and ferocity with which he dispatched the gang member was breathtaking.
But as the fight subsided, Lin Wan'er's eyes drifted back to Xie Yuan's face. She saw something there that made her blood run cold – a glimmer of recognition, a hint of understanding that passed between the gang member and Xie Yuan.
"What's going on?" Lin Wan'er whispered, her voice trembling.
Xie Yuan's eyes flickered back to hers, and for an instant, Lin Wan'er thought she saw a flicker of warning. "You don't want to know," he said, his voice low and ominous.
As the gang members retreated, their tails between their legs, Lin Wan'er felt a sense of unease wash over her. She knew that Xie Yuan was hiding something, something that could change everything.
And as she looked into his eyes, she saw the glimmer of a secret, a secret that would shake the very foundations of their world.
